Sparky is no good mate, you need a qualified AC Installer or you have no warranty.

I put a multi head split system in my old unit about 3 yrs ago. I had 1 Head in the master Bedroom, and the second in the lounge room, all off the one compressor. From memory it was about $2-2.5k (Purchase & Install).

Keep in mind the multi head systems cost more $$$

Tad hard to do cash jobs these days due to the restrictions and ozone laws and risk to the home owner if they get injured or electricuted. Also 2 trades will be required being a refrigeration mec and a electrician.
Most good companies will have a duel trade person with both trades. For example I have both. If just a refrigeration mec does the install they could connect up the electrics wrong and your house could burn down or someone in the house get electricuted. I have seen some horry installs done by refrigeration mechs and it is not worth the risk.
You also should use inverter a/c units as they are cheeper to run

Some prices for a proper install per a/c unit.

Generally if it a back to back everaporator and condensor unit it will be around $300-350. That is on a single story home. That will include getting power from a nearbly power point, a isolator etc.
Now the add ons
If a new circuit is required add about $100
For every meter of pipework you need if it is not back to back add about $40 per meter.
For a a/c unit on a second story add about $150 or so as most places will have schaffold to set up. Not so safe installers will use ladders but not real safe in this day and age with working at heights rules.
If it is a unit bigger than 2hp generally a new circuit will be required as well as a certificate of compliance.

As for the a/c units themselves price varies depeninging on brand. Daikin and the proper mitchibish is best. Fujutiu is ok but a tad noisier inside. You can get the cheap bunnings ones for way less but these are noisy and there may be no local warranty people.
Best to do it right if you ask me.

Sorry mate new years festivities and shit :)

Spoke to brother in law last night, keen to help you out for sure.

Depending on a few variables like location/height/cable runs you are looking at around $400 per unit install costs.. Could be less too :)

Have you considered a ducted system?
