Is there a general sign or car behavior when one fails? How can you tell if one is gone by looking at it?
Is it similar to a cat letting go?

The symptoms can vary. When one of mine went, the car would normally behave fine, but every now and then (roughly once a week, always when warm, and always at idle) it'd start to splutter and cough. I'd put it in N, give it a rev, then back into D, and it'd be fine for a week or so. It had everyone stumped at first.

If you have a scanguage or access to tuning software, load up the 02 Sensors and look at what they do at idle. They should "sawtooth" - ie: high value, then low value, then high value, then low. If one of them isn't, that's a good sign it needs replacing.
