Chaps,

Got a bell from the Mrs, she copped a parking ticket for parking out the front on the footpath. As there is no offstreet parking anywhere near where i live, this is the norm for residents.

Having lived in the same place for 7 years i was gobsmacked as this is the first fine we have ever seen for this!!!

Upon inspecting the ticket, the have stuffed up saying it was Outside #53, but i live at 653 :) So AFAIK the ticket is incorrect and thus makes it null and void.

Has anyone else been in this position before? What did you do about it?
Did you write to the council, take it to court?

Any info would be appreciated

I hate parking tickets ...

It sucks mate, I have always been under the impression that the nature strip could end up with a ticket but I can't say I've ever seen it happen. I don't ever park there at our current place but did on the odd occasion at our old house. As far as fighting it ... you'll probably need to attend court but you could try writing first.

I got a dodgy bus zone ticket a few months ago (long story) but for the amount involved it wasn't worth wasting the time fighting it. I did leave it unpaid until I got a reminder and then I stretched that out too, I think it took me about 3 months to pay the bloody thing, just to make them put as much effort as possible into getting the cash.

i'm with you Nick, i farking hate them!!!!

I really would like to fight it, based on the fact that the council are idiots. Seriously, the letter box is right next to the car with the correct Street # on it, however they looked at the one on the front of the house, and wrote down the wrong #!!!

Will keep you posted with how i go, but seriously what a joke!!!

I had a mate who used to go around collecting rents from businesses in the city. He used to average about 4-8 parking tickets a week. What he got a ticket, he would drive around and see other cars illegally parked and put the ticket on their window. He used to hunt out flashy cars to do this to. Obviously Mr Executive would see the ticket and hand to his scretary to pay. Anyway, he was running at an average success rate of around 80% and the remaining 20% used to get posted to him as a reminder. He even tried it with some of the reminder notices and had success there too!

A mate of mine got one for washing his car on the grass outside his house which was deamed as council land. No actual footpath, just grass. He tried to contest it, but it ended up being more drama than the fine was worth and eventually paid it.

Luckily my last one had the wrong Rego written on it, off by one letter. Never recieved a reminder, so someone out their probably was wondering why they recieved a parking fine reminder for a VE ute that they didn't own.

I used to live on a busy road and parked on the median strip/grass a lot (for 10 years) and never got booked. The council must be strapped for cash to go looking for that. Crap. I say screw them and try to fight it, if you can be bothered. Maybe the hassle (for them) will discourage them from looking for revenue like that in the future.

Yeah its bullshit i know, will wait and see, but yes, i would like to fight it.. bastards!!!It's not difficult. You can in all honesty lodge a Statutory Declaration stating that the vehicle has never been parked in the place alleged. You can download one from the 'net. Just complete it, have a JP witness your signature nd send it in with a covering letter. I think you'll find it will go away. :)

MY 6x4 box trailer got a parking ticket for being on the nature strip. It was between 2 tree's with plenty of room all the way around it. I took a photo, sent it in and basicly said "you have got to be joking"

I didnt hear anything back and never paid it

I am in Kogarah council and they don't seem as bad as Hurstville Council and Rockdale Council when it comes to parking tickets(unless around the hospital)!

My brother that lives on a busy road around the corner from you has this problem with Hurstville Council, they recieved 5 fines in two weeks between 2 cars in one week.

He wrote a letter and they revoked 3 of them (they had also made a host of mistakes on them:confused: ), he also had the traffic manager come to his house for a chat, there is no footpath just grassed area. They wanted him to pay for parking bays to be put in like other steets they have done it in, but wanted him to pay $8000 for it. The street is narrow and is hard to unload kids etc when cars are parked on both sides.
They will be sympathetic but give you nothing when they return to their desk but hound them and they will have a word to ther rangers that booked you.:swords:

They don't mind sending Councilers to some province in China (they have a sister city there, WTF) on junkets and someone has to pay for that! I don't see anything they have improved, infact total opposite with high rises going up everywhere only adding to the congestion.

I see you TuRD parked there all the time, should put the little car outside as it doesn't stick out so much.:stick:

It would be very hard for you to park elswhere as you said in that area, so i can understand your frustration....

But when they pull out the digital photo it makes you look like a liar, they are now photographing cars and then sending out the tickets in the mail also and using the photo's as evidence.

Yep Paul, seen your cars out there for quite a few years. If they've started, they'll keep on keeping on... probably see you as an easy target.

In Brissy my brother got a parking fine when parked fully on a driveway but the back of the ute was part way in line with the foot path but in no way impeding it. Photos / letter to council etc didnt help and he had to pay it.

As he was a tradesman building an extension on the house at the time I thought this was a bit rough.

I got the impression later on that the owner of the house had a neighbour with a bit of a grudge who had put in a complaint. Unfortunately it was my brother that copped the fine though.

Some people are just a wast of O2.

Not at all. The photo will show the car parked outside #653, not #53 as alleged.
Upon inspecting the ticket, the have stuffed up saying it was Outside #53, but i live at 653 So AFAIK the ticket is incorrect and thus makes it null and void. But they may also just re-issue a ticket at #653... Worth a try though.

He probably will get off that one, but from what i have seen they will re-issue to push their point if he doesn't act now.

You should put your location as "Trackchat Junction", the VX stuck out more with the blue plates and the familiar rego user name on my way to and from work. Don't worry i'm not stalking, just an accidental find!

I would say hello if i knew what you look like, i only know what your car looks like...lol

It was going to be either car as was the case with my brother.

Ask the traffic manager to come to your house and plead your case, he will even find it difficult to park himself and may back off.

Make sure you let us know of the outcome.....
