Hey guys,
Interesting story on ACA last night.

And i havent just put this up because it is Pedders.

Yeah look in that instance ($3k bill) it payed to get a second opinion for the family concerned and to be quite honest that dickhead Pedders owner/manager has done his business no favours what so ever.In fact all those other shops helped hurt the brand name yet again it seems.
I do my own servicing and where I can have a go at doing things myself but when I can't I will travel outside my local boundary to have my ride serviced/repaired in detail by those that they trust.
Fwiw I do believe that there are Pedders stores out there that do the right thing by their clients just as I believe that there are other Pedders stores that will blatantly do the wrong thing to 'steal' your hard earned...........and that goes for any business btw!
You only fool the customer once ;)
Didn't see the show (I don't watch ACA), but I saw the ad. Doesn't surprise me at all that it was Pedders. I once got a suspension check-up from a Pedders years ago which resulted in a quote of ~$2,500 worth of "repairs", including a new fanbelt, which I'd replaced 7 days earlier.
Needless to say, I laughed, walked out and never returned. It's a pity - I'm sure there are good Pedders out there, but their name has been tainted by these dickheads.
Cheers,
- Martin.

Bit of a story from moons ago. I used to have issues with wheel alignments and the steering never seemed to be right on my old VP SS in Albury. I went to a number of shops to try and find the problems including holden and specialist shops and they did bits and pieces to fix the issue but still was nerver right. I did the $14 check from pedders and was given a list of things wrong a mile long. About $4500 back in 1992. They said it has hit a gutter or something at speed and everything was bent a tiny bit. I bought the car and later I found the steering collum was looked like it support brace was bent from someone forcing the steering lock open. Presumed stolen and returned but never reported to the police and proberbly sold straight after. I never had the money to fix it so got a couple of the majors done and left it at that.
Basically the list did say to replace everything on the front end suspention, shocks, bushings etc etc. I used the car for a couple of years and ridded to a bloke who was going to make it into a drag car and replace all that stuff anyway. Yes I did tell him.

Dont quote me on the exact $$$ but ears ago I bought an old cortina for $2200. Took it to a free safety inspection. The quote was about $4000 to get everything fixed. Never put a drop of oil in it, sold it years later for $3000in fine condition.

Usual ACA crap ... franchised stores with independent owners but paint them all with the same brush.
I have used Pedders numerous times and have had nothing but good results, never been overcharged (IMO) and never had to take the car back. Never been pushed for something I didn't want and never been told to replace anything other than what I asked them to do!
Pedders Granville for the record ... :yep:

Like i said, i didnt put it up because it was Peddlers.....
And yes im sure there are good stores out there, but unfortunately 3 within a fairly small area all had the same problem.
Its just a shame because it will taint the whole industry....and for the record i hate the sensationalised media!!

I know trevor @ Moorooka pedders and he isnt a bad guy. If something is worn he will say so and recomend replacement but he isnt pushy. Sometimes a part may have a bit more life in it yet still have been recomended for replacement. Sure the $14 check is to get ppl in the door, thats called marketing. Almost every car "could" have parts replaced and in some cases should but we all know there are 1000's of cars out there on the original OEM gear that failed 100k ago that still drive ok to their owners.

Very very valid points Stu,
I think it was also the way the problems were worded to the customers!
Thats why we always show people under the car, at least then they can see for themselves that something is worn and may last longer and make the decision for themselves!

You get the same problems in EVERY industry, be it Construction, motor industry, manufacturing, you name it. The thing is it only takes a few bad apples to spoil it for the rest......... I have Pedders on my car, but used Jax Tyres in Castle Hill to do all my work, tyres, suspension etc. Great bunch and very professional and good price.
It's a suck it and see type thing or go by word of mouth......
Come in for your $2.00 'safety' check!
It's all a bit obvious
Funny story...
Mate of mine has a spirit R rx7
Has a problem with the coolant system, get to op temp, spews coolant from radiator/engine into overflow bottle and won't pull it back in..
Takes it to well known rotary workshop, needs a new motor, offers to sell him his race motor for ~10k
Takes it to another workshop, workshop looks over it, replaces a valve worth metric fuck all and problem solved..

Yep, but Con at Pedders Granville seems to be the exception - he was awesome when i went to him as well. The guys at Liverpool on the other hand, well let's just say i'd never go back there...
If you live In Sydney, Con is the man....

We took our Liberty B4 to Peddars for some springs and a rear sway bar.
This is where it went wrong....
I asked three times what the 'specs' were for the springs, and hw much stiffer they were, and they said they didnt have the info on them, but when we get there tehy'll have it.
We got there and I asked three times for the spring rates, and they kept saying they'll look them up shortly, this was a saturday. I said to the other half, 'watch this, I bet they wont have the specs and it will be too late to call HO in Melb.
End of the day came and I went to collect the car, asked for the specs, the answer?
Well, after he shuffled some brochures without actually opening them, and look at the blank screen on his system (the reflection in the window behind him didnt make him look good), he said, "it's too late to call Melb' being Saturday after noon". But he had my number and would call and let me know. As you would guess, I never heard from him.
But it actually got worse, they were doing the new wheel alignment, and the machine can only do two wheels at each end at a time, so they did the front, then pulled the car off and then did the back after turning it around, so being of 30 years in Motorsports, I asked how they centred the car for the alignment and how did he correc the centre line of the car, his reply was 'he's been doing this for a long time and it's ok'.
No it aint!
So being a racer/rallyer and doing alignments all over the globe in dry,w et, snow and even mud, I grabbed the toe plates out of the car with the tape measure, and threw them on the car and measured, now I asked him for 2mm toe out front - it was a track toy - and when I put the toe plates on it was 2mm in, I told him he will need to redo it, his reply was my tape measure was out!! To which I asked 'are you saying my tape measures are broken??' It dawned on him what he said.
BTW: my tape measure alignments have proven to be 100% accurate each time.
Stupid Peddars people. Shut all these idiots down, if you dont know what your doing, and can't talk to people on even the lowest level of knowledge put the fkng tools down and get away from cars!

This thread is turning into a "guy I know" thread ... don't let facts get in the way of a good story!
Anything that's started by an ACA story isn't worth 5 seconds of my day IMO.
Over it ... :waving:
