I was taking photos of the night sky last night (down the south coast) and was going through the shots later, and noticed some odd shapes,

anyone know what they might be? I have highlighted them in this shot:

Original shot here:

Planets? Satellites? UFO's?

The truth is out there!

Freaked me out a little bit (as we were in the middle of nowhere!)

Anyone seen such things in their night shots?

(i realise there are lots of blown pixels, but i have many other shots of the night sky and these round objects are not in there)

Dust on the lens, or just in front of the lens, hit by the flash? Odd that they appear in different colours though.

I've had some very strange blobs/"orbs" appear in photos which is usually caused by dust on the lens (or dust floating past the lens).

Cheers,
- Febs.

Could be that, hope it is! Did you ever have a "clear shot", then the objects appear for two consecutive shots (30 seconds apart) then disappear in the next shot thereafter? Because that is what happened. I suppose it could be dust but these have not shown up in about another 20 or so shots.

An slr Cam Duncan?

It's most likely to be dust on your sensor...

Dunc,
Sarah says they are as already mentioned "orb's".
Apparently these are "sprit energies" and this is how they travel.

sarah has 100's of photos with these things! You will be filled in next weekend at Bathurst!

Matt,
Actually Sarah :hide:

Are you running a filter on the lens? I have had a similar thing when running a UV filter. The light refracted off the filter and made that happen. Removed the filter and all was good.

It is an older SLR camera (very old, 10 years old, the olympus 2100uz) but it is sealed (non removable lense).

Like i said Dunc,
I would expect that that is the cause of the things...Sarah's camera is good for them and supposedly they are spirits????

Can't say I have, but I usually don't take more than a few photos at a time (point-and-shoot only). :)

Does not appear on the chart, so my guess would be dust. :dunno:
