Ahhh the joys of Toyota... lol

Just had the car serviced and i know i needed new brake pads for the front and possibly rear....
Being a good boy i made sure the Spanner Magician used genuine parts so as not to cause havoc with the warranty etc etc...

Now, the funny part...
For those that dont know, the car comes with from factory
TRD Aurion Wheels: 19-inch x 8-inch aluminium rims
TRD Aurion Tyres: 245/35 ZR19 (Dunlop SP Sport Maxx)
TRD Aurion Brakes: front 325mm x 32mm discs with 2-piston aluminium calipers
TRD Aurion Brakes: rear 310mm x 18mm discs with single piston aluminium calipers

I have since found out that these brakes are slightly modified from a C4(rear)/C5(front) Corvette. PBR made the brake kit for TRD.

Anyways.. Front brake pads $75 Rear brake pads $250...
Now, what i dont get is, how the F$%K do rear pads cost more than front? This must be the only backwards car that i know of like this...

Now when i called Toyota and asked them why the price is so different, i was told it was the compound they use in the rear pads.... When i aksed what was in them, low and behold, they couldnt tell me....
Then i asked why, if you have twin piston on the front and most of your stopping force comes from the front... why dont they have "special compound" and why arent they twice as much as the rear??
Again no answer.......

Seriously Toyota, what are you pulling here!!!

Oh and before i forget....
:soap:

That is all. :)

sounds odd. maybe if it's a custom kit perhaps they are cutting the pads down, and charging for the labour? p.s. wish i paid that much for pads!

lol, well you knew what you were getting yourself in for Dunc when u got the rice magic....
Dont worry if it makes u feel better genuine OEM Front rotors for the turd at $2200. I know its not quite what yours are but its getting up there!!

Apparently the rear disc/caliper setup is the same on a std Aurion, just the pads are different.... Hmmmmmmm

Either way, brakes feel awesome now, rotors were given a clean up, nice service, and well the car feels so much better now, however still not happy about the pad issue lol

Pfft! 2200 for standard front rotors what a joke! Not even AP rotors cost that much! I'm sure there are much better pads on the market which you could fit front and rear which would be under that cost? from Memory Hawk RB74's are 200 an end for C5 calipers...

I think Comp Friction here in the ACT does DS2500 pads for the C series rotors.. They are around the $200-300 mark from a shady memory, but they also cut pads to size to suit.

I put him onto Harrops who sorted him out for a fraction of the price....but still a king's ransom..

Actually that's someting i really tried to find out before i ordered the GTR. I asked them (more than once) how much rotors, pads, clutches and a new gearbox costs. They never answered me. If i got the answer i probably wouldn't have bought the car (which would have been a mistake given the aftermarket make better parts at a fraction of the price now). Anyway like others Nissan have ridiculous policies/prices with their servicing (which is why i dont use them) for example: if you go in for a service and have say ONE cracked pad.. the guideline is... you must change ALL pads AND rotors (=$10k). Thank god for AP! FFS it's not the space shuttle. Rice magic out!

No real surprise in that Toyota pricing Paul.

Even humble Toyota Landcruiser parts if bought genuine come in gold plated boxes.

I remember for our 80 series diesel cruiser an oil pressure sender was quoted at $295 ... aftermarket generic replacement = $85.

Go figure.
