Hi Guys,

I know, i know - another r-spec tyre question!! :woot:

Am wanting to move from the shyte Advan Sports I currently have on the car, and move towards a r-spec.

The car is simply a fair weather weekend jigger only - so only comes out for a sprint /track day or a very spirited drive on a sunny day.

However Im slightly conflicted in terms of the direction to go in terms of brand and then compound. The Elfin is fairly lightweight, with large rims (18x9 and 18x10) with a relatively large amount of power/torque. Reading through a number of the other tyre topics, weight and power seems to mentioned fairly regulalry when considering the type and compound of r-spec.

Im guessing with lighter cars you can afford to go for softer /medium compounds as opposed to hard due to the tyre having to work with less fat...is this correct? The other thing is Im assuming that most light cars dont run such large rims and therefore most 18 inch r-specs are more designed for heavier cars?

I know Im probably over analysing this but are there particulr r-spec brands that lend themselves to lighter cars?! Ive heard great things on the A050s and RE55s, but thats for cars with similar rim size and power but weighing close to twice my car.

Any comments/oppinions/direction would be appreciated!!

Cheers

I'd say maybe the Toyo R888's. Anything less is going to be very unforgiving when cold and wear alot! Below 100 wear rating is not road legal as well i'm pretty sure. What is the kerb weight of the car with driver. You should be able to go for super soft compounds if you wanted to go that way!

Car is a Elfin MS8 Clubman. Fully wet with me approx 950kg give or take.

Toyos were what have been recommended, like wise the Kuhmos as thats what a lot of the Lotus guys run.

Which Kumho? You can't really go wrong with the 888's. will see atleast 10000 kms on road yet still a very decent track tyre. I've driven my ute on RE55's on the road for all of 1km down to get a wheel alignment whilst at OP one day and that was enough!:swear:

I believe the Kuhmos they run are the V70A's - they all swear by them, and seem to be getting good consistent lap times and wear. Wear rate is a consideration so will have a ring around and see what $$'s im up for the Toyos.
