View Full Version : IAT Plug Woes (LS1)
You may have noticed from a previous thread that JB's IAT plug was ripped out (probably by a belt/pulley). The bit that was ripped off was from the loom itself, the bit that actually plugs into the IAT sensor.
JB tried to source a new plug from Holden, but apparently you can't get them without buying the whole loom! ($700!!)
So my question is, has anyone got ideas about where we can get the male IAT plug that goes into the sensor on the MAF tube?
JB arsed it and found one at a wrecker today (very lucky i reckon) but perhaps there is a way to buy a compatible plug from holden or somewher else? Maybe some other holden loom or part is compatible? (where we can canabalise the plug)
Or maybe a sparky can make a compatible plug up? I have some spare IAT sensors but i reckon i need a spare loom plug too, just in case (mine stretches somewhat to fit into the OTR - and I am suss about it - I reckon it will break one day, and I dont fancy paying $700 to replace a tiny plug).
Any ideas?
I hope this makes sense.

Dale,
Where did you get it from? Two holden spare parts places told me there was no way possible that they could supply the plug by itself and it the whole wiring harness had to be purchased. :headbang: If there is a part number and its possible to purchase it. Could you post it on here so no one else gets mucked around like i was. :stick: Also , so i can go back to the holden spare parts places and ram it down their throats and tell them to sort there shit out.
JB
Interesting Dale, this is the male plug that goes into the IAT sensor? I need to find out where you got them because i should have a spare or two.
Can't help with the original question sorry, but JB - jeez you were lucky to find one at the wrecker's! Wouldn't have thought they'd be easy to come by.
FWIW, I've run mine without the IAT before, and haven't noticed any ill effects, apart from a minutely rougher idle (though obviously JB, that wasn't the case for you).
Cheers,
- Febs.

Normally when you have a disconnected IAT, it just registers -38* or thereabouts (as Luke mentions) however in this case it was registering +130* - perhaps due to a short circuit. Both numbers are incorrect, but i think you will find an extremely high IAT is "worse" for any given tune vs a low number. ie. i think it's more likely you will see an obvious effect with a very high IAT.

Well after two holden dealer visits and no success, I would appear there are as rare as rocking horse shit. :werd: Aparently for some its not, and they have stock of them. I am wondering if they are thinking its just the iat sensor instead of the male plug on the harness that plugs into it. At least if they put up the part number everyone will know what it is and if someone ends up having one shred off, wires and all at least there will be a simple solution for them.

Ahh, gotcha. Yeah, that doesn't sound too great. Mine's always showed the negative number when disconnected.

That style of connector is not GM specific, its used on many vehicles and should be available via a decent auto electrician. They are commercially available but you need an account and decent quantity to buy them. Also should use the correct crimper on the pins (yeah right). Pins and housings are bought separately.

they are not hard to find, holden spare parts wouldnt know there ass from there toes. petroject will have stock in every major city,
when you do a mafless on a VZ you need to fit a air temp sensor, hence the reason sonny and myself have them in stock!

I ended up getting one from a wreckers. Just went and chopped it off a trashed ss. Only car that still had t in there though. A quick trip to get it soldered up and voila back on the road road again. A quick check with the scanner and all intake temps appear back to normal.

Good to hear mate
Im glad you didnt listen to the first two blokes that would have had you pay $700
