Long story but a eye opener all the same
I sold a item on ebay which I do a fair bit. Ebay works well and I have been doing it for a few years with only the odd wank but that is life. All has been bearable and worked out in the end.
Well I sold this kit to a bloke and when he got it he claimed it was broken. I said it is under warranty so please send it back. It takes sometimes a week or so to get things back up here so i said send express but he said it was too expensive. He must of sent 6 emails requesting what is going on. I said I am still waiting for it and I said postage can be slow and you should of send it express as I asked.
He was terribly impatient and took it as if I was delaying the process so he raised at Paypal claim for refund and escalated it straight away.
So after 8 working days I get it and find that the remote was buggered and the screen was damaged. (it was perfect when i sent it) I talked to the supplier and they said they will replace it under warranty anyway which was dam good really. I then told the bloke that he will get a new one under warranty but I have to send it back and they then send me a new one. This will take 2 weeks.
So this was not enough for him as he wanted a refund no matter what as he needs the money. I said I have sent it back for warranty and it will be here in about 2 week once again. Still not good enough he said I want a refund not warranty.
I left all these details to Paypal too explaining what is going on and send them copies of the emails. It was pretty clear what he was doing.
Only 4 days of the 2 weeks I needed to get it back under warranty went by and Paypal in their wisdom decided to go with the buyer and they refunded the money. No comments from them or communication as to why or that I was doing a warranty claim. The simply said we have closed the case and awarded to the buyer and paid him.
It was BS. I was going to replace it under warranty even though it was damaged and I also advised Paypal that he was demanding a refund and not replacement. He even said he needs the money not the warranty. I forward on the abusive emails and everything. Still even with all this evidence Paypal still went with the buyer.
Just be very wary with Paypal as it is not always that good or safe and as a seller be dam carful who you deal with. This bloke has 50 or so feedback over 12 months too so no first timer.
I have taken it further through Paypal complaints but still it has not been fun.
At the end of the day I have a brand new item now so no loss either way and I got ebay to remove his feedback once I forward on those lovely emails he sent. He ended up loosing by $12 as I did not pay postage to send the item back. I had to pay the Paypal fees which was about $10.
