I have just got back from a quick trip to Sydney and back home to Brisvegas and I am so impressed! What a great touring car! I've owned heaps of good euro makes including Jags, BMWs, Benzes, etc etc and I have to say the Senator is at least the equal or better than any I can remember.

I went down the coast road and did the trip from door-to-door in about 10 1/4 hrs incl stops for an average speed of 95.0 kph @ 12.8 l/100 which also included all 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 speed limits adhered to strictly....and on the way home today I came the New England and did the 966km at an average of 98.1kph @ 12.6 l/100 door to door, again strictly obeying all the lower limits.

My normally nervous-passeneger wife slept most of the way saying she felt totally relaxed and comfortable. What a great car!

Not bad consumption for an 8... is it modded??

My xr6t averaged 9.4L/100 on a trip back from brissie mid last year, had 500kg of people and luggage too...

Good work :)

Yep, nothing better than a good road trip in a comfortable Aussie 8 (OK OK, or 6T Kyle :p).

I did a 4,400km road trip with dad a while ago, and returned 8.8L/100km for the whole trip, measured at the bowser. That's with the Calais in pretty much its current state - 222rwkw. That included a fair bit of driving that wasn't exactly conducive to good fuel economy either. :D

Cheers,
- Febs.

Awesome stuff seldo ... has the latest mod been done or are you still waiting ... if it has been done it sounds like you are pretty happy with the outcome ???

I have a short run up to Port Stephens and back in the GTS this weekend, going to visit the Medowie Speed Shop while I'm there, and then in April we are heading up to Port Macquarie for a few days and then Coffs for a few days. Later in the year there is a possible Great Ocean Road / Adelaide trip on the books ... these cars are just made for these sort of trips, especially with the DVD in the back to keep the munchkins happy.

I'm taking JGC085 for a run today (Josh's, one of CHE's customers). It's a lot different to drive than mine!!! It'll be interesting to see what sort of fuel consumption it returns (not that I'm going on an economy run).

I don't know how big the cam is in this thing but plenty of 'rock & roll' at idle. It's definitely not a 'sleeper'.

Yes Nick - that's with the new mod :D - Thanks ;). PT just squeezed me in two days before they shut shop for Christmas... Tune was a bit rushed so fuel may improve after a tickle. I guess the fuel consumption is not bad for a 1900kg car with 6.2l, baby cam and 3.91 gears and an A4. Sat most of the way at about 2900rpm at about 130kph. But when you want to overtake, doesn't it get up and boogie....!

Gotta love those fuel figures Seldo and congrats on the "minor" :up2sum: tickle you've given the Senator.:bravo:

Last week in the SS we did the Griswald family thing and filled the SS up in Newie and went Newcastle -> Home/Port Stephens -> Ulladulla -> 2 days as family taxi... -> Ulladulla -> home ... covering approx 900-ish km's and returned a measured fuel usage of 10.9ltrs for the trip. Filled up in Ulladulla and drive home ... still had between 1/4 to 1/2 a tank of fuel left to get to work on Monday !!!!:woot:...:woot:

That was 2.5 up and a boot full of "wiggles" stuff and toys etc cruising at an average speed of 80km/h for the whole trip. Not too bad for a 1.8t "taxi" with 222/224 sized CAM and A/c on the entire trip. Ya gotta love LS1's and ye olde Lean Cruise.:woohoo:

Seldo, sounds like you need to update the details in the 'your car, my car' thread. Sounds like you may have spent a penny or two since you put up your original details.

Tested by km travelled and fuel bowser, 12.7 L / 100 km. Just another day at work, a 408 km round trip, I put a little under 600 km on it to help 'run it in'. I took Denise for a quick spin around the block in it last night, her verdict: "If you ever do this to one of your cars, I'll kill you"

I think the rough idle and extremely loud zorst was all a little too much for her!!! It was still nice to sample something completely different to mine, and it was a LOT more fun than the Nissan Tiida hire car I'm running around in at the moment (mine's getting repaired after a 4WD gave it a little touch up just B4 Xmas).

Wow - 7.5L/100km is awesome.

The best I have ever managed verified by the bowser and computer is 8.6L/100 coming back from Summernats last weekend (Canberra - Newcastle). Mind you I was trying to get good fuel economy too cruising between 110-120 indicated. Round trip including blat to Batemans Bay through the hills and quite a few 'quiet' laps of Northbourne Ave on Fri night netted 9.4L/100 over 1500km just about dead on two tanks - pretty happy.

What size cam we talking about Allan?

I'm not sure on specs, it's one of Sonny's big custom jobbies (prolly about mid 230's with big lift). JGC has 1.8 ratio rockers as well (I think they're installed now) and has fly cut pistons for piston/valve clearance.

Sonny's probably lost track of whick one of his bump sticks is in which car, so I'll ask Dale what approx numbers are (if he knows). The CHE boys had a little stint there over a few weeks where all the cams got changed from one car to another, so I lost track of what ended up where!!!.... though I'm pretty sure this is the bigg'n of the lot.

Mate FYI its Ltrs of Fuel/KM's travelled X 100

Sooooo 41/546 x 100 = 7.509158 or 7.50ltrs per 100kms

47/546 x 100 = 8.61ltrs per 100 kms

Great numbers of econ for a stock tuned car.

Crazy actualy!!!

Whilst on the economy bandwagon, I got what I deemed to be pretty damn good economy from a stock 6.0L manual, 1800+ kg car on highway/city driving. Just on 700 km from 68 litres (which left me with all of 5L !!!!! in the tank  ). I drove from Goulburn to Yass with the low fuel warning flashing!!! That's 9.7L / 100km average which is precisely what the computer told me. I'm pretty chuffed with that, esp seeing as the A/C was on for nearly all that trip too.

Hmmm...well PT just managed to squeeze me in before they knocked off for Christmas. I also had a few other things on the list that they laughed-at due to time constraints..(rude buggas ;)) but there's a couple of other little bits coming too. Shane drove the car afterwards and said that he thought it was the best "package" he'd driven of all of PT's cars, which is a nice wrap. Not the quickest, but best package. Sure makes me smile, and I've had some good cars....

Yes, thanks - it's funny though, because my missus has said to me plenty of times ..."Why do all those young blokes turn and stare at your car when we drive past.."

Now, if I could pick up a TT kit for the right price..... No! Stop it! :headbang:

My young bloke drove us around in my car and afterwards he offered... "That's a pretty good gadget....I quite like it....But it's 3 years old now... Why don't you get a new VE, and I'll help you out by taking this off your hands......" He's all heart that boy....;)

Had the Tiida out at WSID last night, thought about giving Dave from CHE a run.... I think he was scared so I left him alone. Without the Tiida pressure he then went and reeled off a couple of 11.1 passes.

(seriously, this Tiida is a heap of crap compared to Denise's AH Astra)

I had a similar epiphany when I cruised up to QLD a year or so ago. Effortless, efficient and after 10 or so hours behind the wheel, you can get out of the car and don't feel like a washed out rag. I was surprised how refreshed I felt after such a long drive. I love 'em too mate.

Cheers,

Scott
