Yesterday Gary (GHZ28) and I headed out to Queensland Raceway for a bit of a skid in his car.
It had been raining heavily overnight so the track was pretty wet and there was plenty of standing water most places as well as a couple of streams crossing the track, all of which made life pretty interesting on slicks..
I'd never driven there before and had only visited once as a spectator, so it was all new to me. I didn't realise there were several tracks in one, and they had set it up for us to use the Clubman? circuit and later we were to use the Sprint? track but thankfully this didn't occur as the water-crossing was too deep.
I have to say once again - that car of Gary's is a ripper. It just does everything so well, and is real fun to drive.
I was pretty cautious on my first set of laps as I found out where the track went and as the day panned out it slowly dried and we got a bit quicker. Then - as we were about to head out for a 2nd run Gary discovered oil all over the back of the car....Uh-Oh!!...
Back to the pits and a quick check.....Found!....Ermmm....someone who is so fastidious with detail work had over-filled the oil tank and as a result the catch-tank had filled and over-flowed..... Phew!
I wore out some tyres and generally had good fun, but Gary decided that he would just be observer for the day.

Having a bit of chat later on we reckon the spec for this car would be a sensational relatively cheap class, that is bullet-proof. Like up-date Commodore Cup to this spec would be terrific - close racing, bullet-proof reliability, looks great on the track, is quick enough that it would draw the spectators, cheap parts, and if you have a big one you can go and pick-up a complete VT for $10k.
Someone should run with it. Only problem I can see is in trying get the Ford equivalent and then maintaining parity. (and no turbo Fords pls - reliability, parity, and cost)

I did read a while back that the rulers of commodore cup were looking to bring VT's in at some point, not sure if it will eventuate or how it would fit into the existing category, so it could just be another rumor.

But I do believe you're right, as VT's get cheaper and with the support behind the LS1 series of engines, it would make a great class to get into
