Matt,
How about as a a way to kick this off give a rough idea on some general setups?
I'm interested in an upgrade for a car that goes to WSID on a semi regular basis (rears that fit under 15" rims would be good), it occasionally tows a horse float and I would like to visit Wakefield on rare occasions and do more than two laps at a time. The car is a VYII wagon, so its on the heavy side of the Commodore scale.
My current short list is;
1. Disc and pad upgrade.
2. PBR PK1 Kit or just C5 or 6 fronts and keep current rears with disc up grade.
3. 4 spot fronts of some type with an upgraded rear to match.
Obviously options 2 and 3 may not fit under 15" rims
Cheers,
Jarrod
Rotors/pads/braided lines/clutch for 2006 BA xr6 turbo sedan please sir :)
It would be good to have a couple of entry level packages for commodore/falcon
Budget - Level 1
2 x OEM size Front RDA Slotted Rotors
2 x OEM size Rear RDA Slotted Rotors
Matching EBC pads (say greenstuff)
Super Dot 4 fluid
Budget - Level 2
2 x OEM size Front DBA 4000 Slotted Rotors
2 x OEM size Rear DBA 4000 Slotted Rotors
Matching Ferodo pads
Super Dot 4 fluid
Budget - Level 3
Possibly larger sized rotors, calipers and matching pads/fluid (say 330mm)
And a few of your big brake packages
It might be an idea to put a time limit on your prices. You wOuldnt want someone reading this a year down the track and holding you to a price.

Good selection of starting points there mate, just had slotted OEMsize discs fitted to the front of the tonner B4 Xmas :headbang:
Matt
Could you also indicate what size wheel fits over each package - at least the OEM sized wheels, I realise this wouldnt be definitive on aftermarket wheels. Maybe it could read "should fit under most XX rims" unless you know for certain it does or does not.

Broken record or scratched cd it doesn't matter .As long as you keep asking i know your serious. We are hoping the end of january or early feb.If you have a size or budget in mind we may be able to start something for you as a car may now be available to us to start.
The VE commodore as a different set up from previous models as far as brakes go with caliper mounts , wheel stud size , centre hole in disc , handbrake etc all being different so apart from using the same AP Calipers we will have to make new brackets , hats etc to fit.

Usually when going to the 343mm rotor you also go to a 6 piston AP
But 18's are the go as very few 17's will take the caliper

Good question, as per my question in the other thread Matt, do the AP 4 piston front/rear calipers fit with the 330/315 x 32mm rotors from the PBR/HSV brake kits.
IMO the PBR/HSV calipers are really no better than OEM and this might be a worthy upgrade as long as it is not cost prohibitive.

The short answer is no fronts and yes rears. The longer answer is yes fronts with another AP caliper being modified and the rear as mentioned will fit with the right parts kit. This is something we are looking at doing because of many requests and we estimate the price to be about $4000.This will still fit under 17" wheels as any larger like 343mm etc need 18".
The other alternative is just do the front upgrade and leave the rear.

The calipers are different from the 330mm to 343mm kits.
Another option i didn't mention is BREMBO 4 pot calipers. These can also be fitted to 330mm or 343mm front rotors if wanted but not rears.

Got some pricing on the Brembo's for the front? Im pushing over 2000kg atm and the poor 330mm with the C5 caliper isnt coping and ive had em smoking a few times. Cant afford a 6k upgrade just yet though, ill leave that for the next car

Matt,

The kits are the STi Brembo kits and we do not have specs on wheels but the wheels need to have the same clearance as the STi wheels.
The AP Racing calipers on 330mm rotors should read $3150 and yes we can do 343mm 355mm 365mm or 381mm with 6 piston on front.
We can make anything and any size with 4 or 6 piston calipers but it boils down to three things. $$$$$$$$ , wheel size and availability of goods.

Do you currently have availability of the AP Racing 4-pot 330mm fronts for commodore/monaro; your price before of $2500 is that still a goer? Also, do you think there is much benefit in going with say a DBA5000 rotor instead? I have lightweight circuit rims, anything to further capitalise on weight saving interests me... Plus replacement rotors might be a tad cheaper if the hats can be reused. (the 5000's are about 2Kg lighter each?)
Also, Erik mentioned you have some new molycarbide slotted OEM sized rears, are they expensive? and have you seen any guys use these with circuit yet? Would you use a special pad for these? thanks.

Yes i can do the front kits for $2500 but with dba5000 slotted rotors the kit is $3000.00 and it will be lighter but the replacement rotors are still a bit dearer than the DBA 4000 rotors. If your doing track days. The kit with DBA4000 slotted rotors and the ds2500 pad at $2750 is also a good option.
The rear rotors have a C slot and so far i haven't had someone use them on the track but my supplier has and has had no problems.I have a guy willing to put them on his vehicle and try them in a couple of weeks. If you or anyone wants to buy them and try them i will offer them for a good price.AT the moment i will offer them for $250 a pair which isn't to steep and a special pad is not needed. The rear rotor is also a vented rotor replacing the std solid disc on the VT-VZ range and can be also used on the street not just racing.

Matt, what is the advantage with this rotor material? Do yo uthink, given it is ventilated, could it be weaker given the side walls are much thinner? or would the ventilation more than offset the heatng/cracking issues anyway.

Thanks for putting this up for me .The rotors are made from a stronger material this is why they can be made vented. As listed on the information sheet for these rotors the closeness of the "metal matrix" allows the transfer of heat more readily and the dissipation of heat also occurs more freely resulting in a far more stable material. The rotors are very strong and extremely wear resistent .The disc thickness variation is less than 5 microns which is under car manufactures of 20 microns and are precision balanced for smooth and vibration free operation in all speed ranges. Also available in the front rotors these may be the answer for cars running std brakes and 15" wheels.
Did i lose anyone in this at all :stick:

On the front you will need hubs and hoses as the flare or seat in the VY is different to the early commodores. The rear kit won't bolt straight up as the handbrake and caliper mount is different from late to early.I have heard someone does modify it to work but you have to supply your rear setup as there are one or two types and it costs i think between $650 to $900 to do.Ring or email me for your prices if you want to go ahead.
