View Full Version : GTS ... Smash !!!

Buffy was driving down the Pacific Highway, in the left hand turn lane, this morning and about 100m before Fox Valley Rd a lady in a Chrysler Voyager decided she needed to turn left ... NOW !!!

So anyway, we now have a front guard that looks rather worse for wear and the front drivers side wheel has a few chunks missing from it.

:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

No one was hurt and it's all fixable ... but it still sucks. I'll stick some sad and sorry pics up later ... a shitty week just got worse.

Think I'm going to bail on the drag day too, I need the Coupe while the GTS is fixed and can't afford a new gear box yet anyway, just not worth the risk ... plus with all the shit about my car going on the background (of the LS1 scene) I just can't be fugged, it's meant to be fun, but it isn't. Sorry about the whinge ... have a good one peoples.

Thats no good Nick, glad to hear everyone is ok.

It is all just about having some fun to mate. You only have to look after your self, so give em all the bird!!

Its nearly midday on a Monday, no better time for a beer tiger.

Nick,

Don't bail on the drag day, sorta be missing something if ya weren't there.

You can enter as a second driver in the SS if you want and we can both have fun at getting the worst ET. The offers there anyway.

I am pretty crap at being philosophical but figure it this way, you day can only get better I suppose. Better to have hassle than hospital.
:werd:

Fingers crossed for a better day to come.:)

That is really bad news Nick. I know the spot where you are talking about and there can be no doubt that the lady driving the Voyager didnt look, I have seen it happen there before when people suddenly realise that they need to go up Fox Valley Rd.

It really sucks when your brand new beautiful car gets damaged but as you say as long as everyone is ok.

On the drag day thing dont let people bitching "drag" you down. With a build like this there is allways going to be people that have a go but in the end you just need to be happy with the car. I still reckon your car will be the fastest street trim and tyred Ls1 around. That impresses me more then a car on slicks with the interior removed and the exhaust dropped.

I hope everything improves for you and the family. A few beers wont hurt either

Yep, that sux Nick. Imagine the look on the other ladies face when she got out of her car and saw what she'd done to a beautiful GTS.
Glad everyone was ok!

EDIT: You have to come to the drag day, i'll be a photographer there :)

thats terrible news Nick, as long as everyone is ok, it's just bent metal and scratched plastic that can be fixed.

I wasnt aware you are going through issues behind the scenes on ls1 about the drag day, sorry to hear that. this was supposed to be fun.

What a bummer Nick! But, it's only a car - at least Buff and the kids are ok which is the main thing. Cars are easy to fix - just bolt on some new bits and all's well. Still, it's a real pain in the butt. I trust it all sorts out ok.

Always issues mate ... I have just had enough of it, I can't play with a car without being dragged into the middle of all the usual bullshit. I can't drive the car without it being analysed and picked to pieces and apparently many think I'm not even free to choose who ever the hell I want to choose to work on the car.

It's the same old crap and I really shouldn't be bringing it up here, the whole point of this site was to escape all of that. The basic point is that I'm not having fun and I don't want run at WSID with who knows how people just waiting for something to go wrong. I couldn't give a toss about the quarter mile and only signed up for a bit of fun ... if it isn't going to be fun, what's the point ???

Anyway ... I shouldn't be complaining, I have no right to feel sorry for myself. One way or the other I will be there, just unlikely that I will run at this stage. The car can be fixed and everyone is fine ... that's really all that matters.

F*ck this shit gets up my nose ! It is noone elses business for f*cks sake ! I wonder if these tall poppy knocking asshats would think the same way if the tables were turned? I bloody bet they wouldn't. :up2sum:

To anyone who takes enjoyment from sitting around waiting for others no matter who they may be to falter and fail ... PISS OFF AND GET A F*CKIN LIFE !

I know tall poppy syndrome is an all time Aussie past time but amongst the LS1 scene it is just funkydishwaher ridiculous. :werd:

Very true Nick, although its a PITA having it off the road to get it fixed up. I hear that those types of accidents can completely destroy PCM's and exhuast systems. The PCM will need recalibration and the exhuast system will need replacing while its off the road.

I'm glad to hear that Buffy and the kids are fine.

...Imagine the look on the other ladies face when she got out of her car and saw what she'd done to a beautiful GTS...

Driving a Chrysler Voyager, I'd bet London to a brick that she wouldn't have a clue what car she hit.

Cheers,

Scott

I reckon you are right there, she asked Buffy to write down what sort of car it was so she could tell the insurance company ... she will probably say "it was just a Commodore".

Sorrry to hear about the GTS. Its annoying when something happens to your car but when its still so new its even worse.

Who'd have thought building a nice car would cause so much #$@$:headbang: i assume they mostly just jealous cos they drive a POS in comparison to the coupe. Goodluck with it all.

No posts mate ... shit stirring ones have been deleted, and there where lots !!! The rest is behind the scenes BS.

It's not just all that stuff, I need the Coupe while the GTS is off the road and there is a better than average chance that a drag day will break something (700+hp through all 4 wheels can do that) ... and I really don't want to deal with that ATM.

Mate really sorry to hear that your new GTS has been bent,I no where you mean and can just imagine exactly how it happened.Unfu(king believable. At least no one was hurt, and you were not driveing .......you might of lost it.Mind you I bet the wife was upset knowing she had to ring you tell you your new car has been in an accident.Being so new if done properlly ,you wont even tell once fixed.

As far as raceing your car at wsid ...well theres 2 sides to that one.
It would really frustrate me haveing to race half-hearted in order to preserve your car.Especially now that your going to need it for a couple of weeks.
But
Your a bit down because of the high profile you've taken on with your car.Everyone has an opinion. But its a forum and everyone is entitled to an opinion weather informed or not.But its not about sitting on your ass with your keyboard in your hands ,its about sitting in your car with your steering wheel in your hand.As such I bet if you get out there amoungst it at WSID it will remind you what its all about.Haveing a shitload of fun with your car.Mate come out do 3-4 mellow(ish) runs then put it away. You can drive mine for 3-4 runs...i dont give a shit.Acoonamatada(no what that means).

If you dont go to the drag day, you might be more inclined to come on the cruise to Bathurst on the Sat :D I daresay it would be a good opportunity to put some of the pettiness behind you, and bring the family out for a relaxing day, and enjoy your coupe4. Plus I have an alterior motive - after reading about the coupe in GXM, I have just got to see it in the flesh!! Hope the repairs to the GTS go smooth mate, all the best.

My view.

If no one had heard anything about Nick's car, then suddenly it was on the magazine stands in all its glory, there would be gaping mouths and pure awe, even from the knockers.

Its just that the very detailed build process meant that people with vested interests in seeing it fail (or atleast being a one-eyed supporter for their own choice of vehicle modifier) had 9 months of a great end-result being "rubbed in their faces". The hatred towards the end product (Commzilla) has had a lot of time to fester, and its all coming out.
Now its Nick (or his car) vs the knockers.

No one yells abuse at Eddie Tassone, about his horsepower heroes cars not being a good product, no one see's a mint VL Calais Turbo in a Street Commodores magazine and starts abusing the person or builder .... but Nick's car is copping a pounding for some reason. Even though its gotta easily be one of the most desireable cars in Australia. (Come on ... luxury, performance, style, AWD ... in a coupe body .... just incredible). -- Actually there may be stuff going on behind the curtains in other performance scenes.

I'd love to see the bad boy out there, but then again, not going out there keeps the mystery about Commzilla going. "How quick is it ? ... nobody knows"

I can't tell whether not going out there is playing into their hands, or going to annoy them.

I too am now not wanting to race. I think nerves are getting to me ... and the fact that Dennis will probably carve me up.
I'm not wanting to break anything, but there's been such a build up that I can't sit out. Although I will take it easy.

Has anyone got a spare car they'll lend Nick for a few weeks should something break ?

Nick, you have a G Tech right? So... I guess you already know, or, could VERY easliy find out ET/MPH to within 1% if want to know. :up2sum:

Even 0-100 would allow a very accurate figure on 0-400m, if not i have some stuff that will work it out to within a couple a tenths...

IMHO if the C4T goes better than 12.5 on true every day, NORMAL street rubber and setup, its a very serious monster...

I feel for you, Nick. Real shame about such a beautiful car, I think I would cry but importantly everyone is fine. As mentioned sounds like a perfect opportunity for an improvement.

Re the naysayers........f*ck them. I am not aware of the issues but where ever there is money involved and lets face it that's what the whole performance scene is about for many (not all)......money. If it's not money for these dildoes it's jealousy and it lets spineless halfwits feel better about themselves to try and push someone else down. Reality is they only bring the average down, if everyone helped each other this scene would be shedloads more fun and prductive. End sook :)

For you (and some of us), at least, it's about fun. Do whatever YOU wanna do, who gives a flying shit what anyone else thinks.

It would be nice to meet you (properly) on Sunday at the very least.

Hope Tuesday is better (I knew there was a reason I hated Mondays)

True ... but the first little mark shits me big time ... this was the first "little" mark !!!

Speaking with the repairer this afternoon, to do the job properly they need to respray front guard, bonnet, front bumper, A pillar and possibly the front door ... not sure if he said that one.

I said ... can the wheels be fixed (the left one copped some gutter rash), he said ... screw that, it's a brand new car, they can buy 2 new ones.

Crap... why do stupid people have to do stupid things and take the shine off someones new car..:headbang: bloody shits me and it's not even my car. Anyway damage isn't too bad, couple new panels and paint and it'll be as good as new!

With regards to C4T, jealousy is a curse but a part of life. Just enjoy your strip outing no matter what happens or what is said. Life is too short to worry about these people. :)

Hey Nick, sorry to hear about the GTS mate. As everyone has said already, so long as Buffy and the boys werent injured, however it still doesnt take away there are a lot of drivers out there that are just ficked in the head, and have no idea!!! :headbang:

In regard to the C4T, it would be great if you can do a couple of runs, then park it, with bonnet firmly down. Its just ridiculous that you should even be put in the position to feel they way you do. Your car, your choices, your dream, everyone else fuck off if they dont like, after all, its yours not theirs!!

I hope you take it mate, after all, you built it to have some fun in.

Cheers

The GTS damaged  I know exactly what you're feeling Nick, had exactly the same thing with the wagon since I first went to Sonny to have the 427 tuned. When I went to run the 427 at WSID and the diff broke on the line 1st pass, people from another workshop were at the line laughing.

The drag racing nuts give me the shits, oh if your car has 370 rwkw it should run an easy 10.2 @ 135 mph (or whatever) or it's shit and you wasted your money and your workshop is crap. I copped a lot of flak last night in a certain bolt-on in the 11's thread on the LS1 forum for telling it like it is :) Really, who gives a frig what time it runs? It's supposed to be fun, and that's what private days are for.

Hey Drew,

Welcome to TrackChat !!!

I know what you mean, just because you go to the drag strip occasionally (this Sunday will be my 2nd time ... ever) doesn't mean you give a toss what time you run. 1/4 mile times weren't even considered or thought of when the Coupe was with Sonny, it's not a drag car, pure and simple.

Anyway ... why don't you start a thread on the wagon, you can tell us all what is happening with it ATM ??? :up2sum:

It's easy to tell the LS1 Nationals are coming up, the shitfights on LS1 have already started.... the Nats will distract them for awhile.

The Russo boys are taking the GTS down there, that'll cause quite a stir as I suspect it'll run sub 10 seconds looking at the development that's been happening. Most of the loudest of the mouths from down south know nothing about this car.

Hi Drew, welcome mate.

Chris (my eldest son and Sonny's new apprentice) got a new digi cam for Christmas and yesterday got delivery of a 1gb memory card for it. He has taken it in to work today so I reckon there is a fair chance of a "few" photos real soon.

Cheers,

Hi Nick.

Sorry to hear about your car. But as everyone has said cars are able to be repaired, but humans arent. The lady made a honest mistake that anyone could have made, the insurance process will do the rest.

As far as the whole LS1 thing goes (I have nfi what is wrong but no doubt ill hear soon) but i know after Bomi's expereince that you dont take shit from them. However that doesnt mean that you have to stick it to them by taking your Coupe out there to prove a point, if you feel bad at the moment about taking it out do NOT take it out, ive made wrong decisions with my mind when my gut told me otherwise.

Seriously though, i cant believe people get so bitchy about cars and events i think there are better things to worry about in life rather than what car is doing what etc....

I think we should all buy ricers - both jap forums i were on were nothing but praise and respect for all users, regardless of ride, age and mechanical expertise. There was no bitching about anything what so ever!

Regards

Hethro :)

Dave,

Sounds great and there once was a time when I would have considered it but given the amount of chest beating and carryon about "who's WANG is bigger and better than who's" as well as "what constitutes a dick and what doesn't" ... I honestly don't think it paints a very good picture or promotes the event in any way that would make me want to drive all that way.

Maybe all the carryon is just part of the experience?

Kudos to the 10 or so QLD gents contemplating the drive to attend, shows real commitment.

Good luck to all attendee's esp the Russo boys, be good to see some socks get shoved in some mouths that sorely deserve it. :werd:
Not quite sure why that related to Nick's GTS being aero modified ... sorry back O/T.

:)

EDIT: Welcome drew, good to have you hear. All of what you said sounds mighty fine, too much BS enters into things at times and the fun is just a casualty. Sad really.

True enough Rob but I prefer to think that is a small but very noisy minority that tend to stuff LS1 up.

A case of opinions are like arseholes with the flipside that some arseholes also have opinions... :up2sum:

I usually set on 118 and have driven straight past them many times ... but I take no responsibility for any tickets :stick:

I reckon you are 100% safe at 115 ... allowing for the speedo error that every car has you are probably only doing 111 or 112 anyway.

Another view I have taken on occasion is that you loose the same number of points at 130 as you do at 111 ... so fug it, I'm doing 130. I probably wouldn't recommend this method though.

been travelling the F3 twice a day for the last twelve years... cruise set on 15 k's over.... never been pinched and I've passed MANY of our friends in blue. I obviously slow down a tad when I see them, and the ones on the side of the road.... well I know every spot that's ever been used, so I see them before they 'see' me.

I'll be at the Gosford 'on ramp' at 6:20.... phone number 0418 464 650
