View Full Version : My 402 probably isnt happening now :(
BECAUSE IT'S GOING TO BE A 427! :)
It turns out the Russo boys have availability of the GM LS7 block at a decent price, so we've decided to build a 427 instead..
Incrementally the price shouldnt be too much more (vs a 402).. at least i hope not.
So it looks like that exo-skel is going to come in extra handy, and I need to change my login id...
We're probably a few weeks from anything happening, but i'm excited..

You had me going Duncan  I was thinking more bad news for a forum member.
A 427 engined Monaro, I really hate you now ;) You are building my favourite car, a better looking personalised version of the HRT427! Keep us all updated.

Congrats Duncan or should I say LSX-427
I am excited for you.
Wow 7 litres of naturally aspirated goodness - that will be one humdinger, balltearing blast to drive.
I am v.jealous as I am still weighing up the stroker option currently probably never happen but (we'll see)
Do you the bore and stroke of that combo. Is it the 4 and bit" bore x 4 and eight stroke???
Anyways good job
Cant wait to hear all about it

This seems as good a time as any to bring out my new smiley...

Congrats doesn't quite cover it Dunc but as Chowny says....
:sucks:
NOT !!!!!
Great choice to say the least. If drewvytes 427 wagon was anything to go by, this should be a romp,romp-a-stompa.
May one ask what is to come of the current pavement tearer engine?
PS Stupid forum .... giving me ideas that need all the attention....:headbang:

Now we just need to modify your bonnet and put a little lip wing, some carbon fibre dash bits, some bigggg brakes and your set...
you really do need to spend some good money on brakes now dunc...
Congrats doesn't quite cover it Dunc but as Chowny says....

Dave i think we're cannibalising the top half of the motor where possible; i think we'll need a new cam though..

I hear the 365/370 180LSA suits beautifully:nutbag:
In all seriousness, are you thinking bigger by comparison, I mean not just bigger as that will be somewhat offset by longer stroke, I guess I mean 'angrier' compared to current setup.
Lucky bugger (who made his own luck)

I really am not sure how much bigger the cam will be.. but i dont want anything too angry.. i need to drive the car every day, not long distances or anything, and i sometimes get stuck in some traffic.. so hopefullt we can keep it reasonably tame.

If it's any gauge for you Dunc, drewbytes SS wagon when runnning the 427 had a 226/226 (I think) and made GOOOOOOOOOOOOOBS of torque and power.
Doesn't need to be a big CAM to make big oomph when stuffed inside a whomping 427 block. Although, try the CAM Luke suggest, I'd be keen to see the results.
Can't wait to see this get going ... CMon Justin/Christian, you've run a 9 sec pass now, get on with the Monaro.:teach: :teach:

lol, depends on your perception of tame i `spose Duncan ,it didnt sound too tame when i heard it the other day....it sounded baad :up2sum:

Maybe "well mannered" would be a better way to put it Dunc, as the only time a 427 would be "reasonably tame" is when its powering an ocean liner.

Yep, a 226/226 and it went well :) Made 310-320 rwkw on Sonny's dyno and 331-335 rwkw on a DD dyno in Canberra and make slightly less torque than a single turbo kit.
Although many will tell you you need a 250+ cam in a 427.

Sorry Hazza. Yes still have the harrops although i'm taking off the rears for Sunday (to fit the M/T's) The harrops are ok, but the issues i've had with the pads irks me, and it looks like harrop are ignoring me. If you dont have to change pads often, its probably not a drama. I might just get the 4-pot 330m fronts and leave the back stock, for drag radials.. :)

Ah okay cool. My greens finally disintegrated so put a pair of redstuff in the front this time. Quite squealy so far at under 20km/h, but are only a day old so will see.
