Some reading for you guys

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podcasting

there are literaly hundreds if not thousands of podcasts published on the web each day, no doubt you will find one or three of interest

for example here's a page (http://militaryspot.com/military-podcast.htm) where you might find some military podcasts, and here's another (http://www.knitcast.com/) for knitting enthusiasts

You should be able to find podcasts about literally any subject. If you travel a lot, or sit in front of a PC all day (or otherwise can listen to a bit of spoken word mp3's) you can use some podcasting software to automatically download mp3 files direct to your PC and/or audio player.

overclockers australia podcast!

I've got a few of those. James is a good bloke and he generally has some interesting stuff (if you're a geek) to listen to. Can't say I've ever listened to a whole one, but they are good to listen to for a bit. :)

I just got my new iPod today (sold the old 40gb chunker and got an 8gb Nano..so much better, even if I did have to cut down my music to fit it all in).

There are some great video podcasts out there too (for those with a Video iPod, PSP, or even a PC/Mac :)). "Thank God You're Here" usually podcast a skit from each episode, and John Safran (of "Music Jamboree" and "Versus God" fame) has full-length episodes of "Speaking in Tongues" available. I've only seen one ep but it seemed pretty funny - it's Safran and a priest having a go at each other while discussing current events. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

I guess you could say podcasts are just like radio, but for the internet. And it is mostly spoken word. We use a bit of software to target exactly what delivered, and when; and you decide if you want to listen now, later, or whenever, if ever.. there are a lot of educational podcasts covering just about any subject. For example here (http://www.podcastalley.com/podcast_genres.php?pod_genre_id=10) are over 1300 business related podcasts.. some are rather crap, some are gold. The idea is you "subscribe" to a podcast and the audio file (usually mp3) it is automatically delivered whenever a new episode is published. I would hazard a guess most people would listen to a podcast whilst doing something else... travelling, working, browsing the net... it's not an acitivity pe sey.. again it's kind of like listening to the radio.

Anyway if you get a chance try Radio Hotlap (http://radiohotlap.com) (you can just download the MP3 link on the page to try). Radio Hotlap is essentially a few aussies sitting around, chewing the fat about aussie motorsport (with some international motorsport every now and then), the latest technical gadgets, BBQ's techniques and drinking beer!.. I'm not saying every episode is interesting, but hey those subjects just about cover everything for me! They often talk about v8supercar stuff (rumours, impending deals etc) that you never hear about in the press.

Yeah, as Dunc said - listening to Podcasts is something you'll usually do while you're doing something else. They're great for long train trips (but my trouble is, I always fall asleep and miss half of it!)

Think of the term "broadcast", but instead of being sent out over radio waves, they're sent out via the Internet, for you to listen to at a later date.

Radio Hotlap looks great, thanks Dunc! Something to listen to tomorrow methinks. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.
