Firstly i would like to thank ryan and who ever else was invoved in organising the private day,it turned out to be a great day except for the heat ! 50+ track temps,i got burned like Steak ! there was a good turn out and considering it a hot day, everyone did quite well for the temps out there, ourVL ran 10.4@132mph,so we got our marching orders ! quicksilvers GEN T turbo wagon ran a 11.4@121mph,though his day was cut short due to the gearbox letting go,nicks coupe ran a 12.3@116mph just rolling it off the line, suprising result considering the temps and it weighing in at 2050kgs on the weigh bridge.all cars were full wieght

im stocked with my 11.1@126mph in the heat,

car ran over 126 every pass, only the driver stopping it from running that 10sec pass!

Look forward to hearing how everyone went.

45 degrees on the blacktop in long sleeves and pants wasn't for me so I spent the day in and around the pool

Have to wait until the weather cools down :)

Best ET - 13.5 @ 102mph @ 2.2 60ft
Best MPH - 13.9 @ 105mph @ 2.4 60ft
Best 60ft 2.1

As driven on the street, including street tyres at normal tyre pressure, spare tyre jack, full tank, no rear mufflers, standard air intake system everything 100% stock!

With it all comming together (best of each time slip) 13.3X, with colder temps 13.1ish if not better @ <15C... Very happy with the factory car, im sure its got a 1.9 60ft in it, but im out of practice after with my 18month holiday, COME ON SATURDAY!!!

Great to see your car nick, sounded great!

Best race i had was with Josh (Keen), door to door till half way, then the H+C GTS pulled a couple a cars or so (13.1 josh 13.5 me)

Cant wait to see all the pics, there was a few cameras around!

Now, lets do that again in winter!

Everybody cleared out relatively early... literally only myself, Ian, Duncan & the girl in the Silver Civic still running by 3pm. We hot-lapped the Munro from 2.32pm until the last run at 4pm... 24 runs in 41* heat; only 2 before lunch. How good are these cars!!!

We had an "issue" in the morning with the left rear braided brake line being sliced open by the wheel balance weight. Pumped out a lot of fluid. So, not wanting to call it a day, I rushed home for a spare line, returned & we fixed it during the lunch break with a little help from the Russo Brothers. Basically after that we made up for lost time & just swapped drivers. The car never missed a beat. Really goes like a sledgehammer...

best et: 11.894
best mph: 117.60
best 60':1.768

Massive thanks to Duncan for allowing me to drive the Monaro. The new Exo-skel is awesome. I think those times are quite respectable considering the car setup is definitely more circuit biased with the Bilstein/Eibach's.

Was good catch up with the usual stooges & some new faces too. Watched Dave & Luke duel it out many times... races looked like they were separated by a hair.

May have to get one of these days organised for July. I am frizzled.

Thanks Ryan, Ken and all who helped make today run smoothly.

I could only manage a handful of slow runs and tossed the keys to Chris. I had the honour of the 1st car to run against Nick and the Coupe and was more interested in watching it pull away than what I was doing

Took us nearly 5 minutes sitting at the staging lights to get away as the bloody left lane lights were playing up. Sitting in a car with all the windows up, no air con, long sleeves and pants plus a helmet is no fun at all at those temps.

Never, ever again in summer.

Man, there were some really tough cars turn up today. As others have said, great day and well organised, despite the heat.

Cheers,

(Sizzling like an isatope) Scott

An interesting day was today.

Great showing by the members of trackchat with some good efforts in the filthy, stinking, hell laided, hand burning heat :wow:

The 12.3 from Nick and the Coupe was a pleasure to watch, didn't even break a sweat despite the no doubt utterly sweat laided driver.

Any person who is not impressed by the Coupe 4 is either dead or NFI ! :werd:

Good showing from team Pumpkin, if I do say so myself with PBs had despite the filthy heat. Close racing to say the least and enjoyed it muchly.

To those who left for pools or beers at lunchtime:
S-M-R-T !

Highlights for me were:

Mr consistent FST60L and repeated mid 13's .. well done Carl
Racing team pumpkin VC for sheep stations with Assoc PBs
Racing a $110K plus AMG Merc and mopping the floor with it.
Mr K and he 11.9 pass on the red Monaro
Murat and the 10.4 in the VL, impressive is an understatement
The great showing from ALL the turbo cars, esp the boys from CHE, well done guys.
The exhaust sound of pretty much any car the Russo boys had laid their hands on
track temp of 60 degrees
The 2 energiser bunnies in the red monaro that were Murray Walkering their way down the 1/4 (They just kept going round and round and round ...) :)
Bomi/Kyle/Aeron/Grant and the tireless camera people for their efforts standing in the sun.
Seeing all the usual friends and making some new ones. THAT is what all this car forum stuff is REALLY all about IMHO.

Thanks to the hostess and host with the most and Jackman (distant relo of pieman) for ... um ... the jack ;) and everyone for getting into the spirit of a gathering and leaving all the BS at the gate.

Insanely hot but utterly great day

Cheers

great day all. I was nowhere near my best (me personally, and the car as well!) I think my best was 11.7 at 120, every run was about 120 and 11.7 to 11.8 except for my first 'gentle' 12.0 to check everything was happy. For some reason I just couldn't get it off the line with all 60ft over 2 sec's.

Car ran like a train all day.... the same can't be said of the driver.... he wilted! Thanks to my 'pit crew', Barlo and Marty and of course the CHE boys for all their assistance. Also thanks to Sonny for an awesome tune.... It felt so strong, and is as I drive it, day in, day out every week.

And Dale's launch on his 11.1 sec run..... simply awesome... can't wait to see the 'in car' video of that run.

Thanks to Ryan for organising the day, next time in winter mate!!

Murats car is still a high light for me, we i tuned it up i didnt think it would run that quick with the converter that is in it, goes to show what a good tune, race fuel and 30psi of boost will do to a full weight VL!! :) damm i love the RB engines!

It was a good day, pretty extreme weather though.. it was trying for drivers and cars alike. I have never experienced a day like it. The data logs were showing intake temps of 65* at the end of the 1/4 mile! Chances are, most conservatively tuned cars would have been pulling gobs of timing out..

As Erik mentioned, we had a slow start due to a fouled brake line. I changed the rear brakes on saturday (to fit the m/t radials) leaving the braided hose in place.. somehow it ended up rubbing on the chaser drag wheel (mainly the balancing weight) eventually cutting the line.. we replaced it with a stock rubber hose (in the stock position) but it was still rubbing? Team Russo to the rescue with some trackside brake surgery saved the day. Moral of the story, double check your brake hose clearance, expecially if running with m/t's mounted on chasers with balance weights. I shudder to think what could have happened if we lost all brake pressure at the wrong moment.

Erik ran a 11.89 in the monaro, and I spent the last hour trying to get close. The best I could manage was a 12.20. I ended up with about 17 runs, all within 2~3 minutes of each other. I hope PlanB doesnt read this, not sure my tex warranty will cover that.. I can't believe how well the car stood up to repeated 6000rpm launches, the car ran stong all arvo. The exo-skel is quite simply amazing, standing up to such repeated punishment. The monaro ran full weight; half a tank of fuel & spare/jack etc in place. A best mph of 117.6 shows potential, i think with better conditions and some conservative weight saving (fuel/jack etc) we should be nudging 120mph and a mid 11.

A huge thanks to Erik for showing us the potential of the car; i now have to spend time perfecting an M6 launch and shifting technique... actually i have to find a technique first... Also Erik, thanks man for rushing home to get a replacement brake line, we would have been stuffed without it, huge thanks man.

Another big thankyou to the Russo Brothers for putting together a great package; albeit intended for circuit with hard suspension, still managed to run a great 1/4 mile time (I watched Erik reel off several back-to-back 11.9's, bloody Mr consistent..) And thanks to the Russo brothers for allowing me the lattitude to tune the car myself. Of course when i say "myself" it has been with great input and advice from forum members (especially Luke/SSUte01) as well as the Team Russo. It's been about 12 months with this home tuning caper now and I dont think I could ever keep up with the pro's - but it's interesting nonetheless.

Let's play "where's Erik"..

Unless you're in the Middle East. Anyone remember those pics of the Middle Eastern offstreet drag meet, with several $1m+ cars (Carrera GT, Enzo, Merc/Mclaren SLR etc...). They'd probably still get their arses whooped by Murat and Dale's cars though.

Well done to all who were out there, and especially Dunc - it takes a brave man to hotlap his car for over an hour in 41degC+ heat. "Hotlap" indeed.

What a day...i dont think ive been this burnt for a while:eyes:

It was of a mixed bag for me, i only had 5 runs all day..... ran 2.5/10s off my cam only pb which was a bit of a surprise conisidering it was 103kgs heavier, much hotter and had lots of timing pulled out for the nitrous.

Only got 2 runs on the gas, both 11.3 @ 124 mph, logging showed the fuel system wasnt up to the task so we pulled the pin.

Many thanks to Russo Performance for giving up their days racing to crawl underneath my pos on the scorching tarmac to install widebands, log, take the piss etc...thanks guys :bravo:

Biggest let down of the day...the f***kin Eastern Creek tav being closed!...but the coldies at the Prestons hotel quickly made up for my initial disapointment

Well what a bloody long day. I don't thnk I will ever do that to my car ever again. Ol "Goldmember" was trying to tell me that I had put her through a fair day's racing. On the way home on the M7 I got the ol Check Engine light, having a bit of a worry I pull over check the code and it is a TPS issue, restart it's gone, how good - had a spare in the back but was glad I didn't need to change it in the heat. Returned once on the F3 but no issues since may change it anyway.

Then after a quick stop for food cruising up the road, car dies completely, this time I shit myself and a car drives by has a toot and I lip read 'fuel', pull over can smell fuel and sure enough the fuel line has just 'popped' off, pop hr back on and not another trouble home. Phew.

As for the day itself I as always loved it, just a bit much in the heat. As I didn't get to see much run the absolute highlght of my day, was the biggest grin I have even seen after the CEO of Team Pumpkin has pulled over and tod me followig first run after lunch, "it's not working", my guts drop thinking a leg out of bed or something drastic, he hands me the timeslip, 12.5x and I call him a such and such and like a fat kid in a candy store with a fist full of fifties the biggest grin I have seen emerged. Well done!!!!

For me personally I too like Allan was struggling with 60' only one sub 2 and the rest 2.0 or 2.1+ because of wheelspin, me suspect the LSD was only turning one wheel - anyone know or recommend a good diff place to have it tightened. But when it did hook up it felt awesome and that was a 1.93, I can only imagine what a 1.6 or 1.7 feels like.

Best ET - 12.742 @ 112.1
Best 60' - 1.934 (same run funnily enough)
Best mph 115.05 of 2.2 60'

Like you said I was most happy with the mph in 41* and according to my logs up 67* IAT which means if I can get it to hook up it'll go alright.

Racing Dave was the most fun, losing (though I was trying my guts out not to) the start to try and chase him down -got to keep people guessing. Very much fun

Dunc, you give are giving me far too much credit but as to that Munro fark me that thing doesn't have balls it has big fark off hairy gonads - it well and truly put me to shame - look out come cooler weather if you're still doing the straight stuff with that performance mid 11s - awesome car well done to all involved.

Watching the Black machine that rocked the world was also very high on my favourites list. Talk about effortless - not dissimilar to a jet, eases away and then winds up whoever is in it's path. Looks shit hot too.

Got to meet some really nice blokes in what was a day with no 'anatomy measuring' and put some names to faces.

All in all thanks Gents and Ladies who made it the day it was.

Do I get the record for the longest winded diatribe in history ;)

Well, in the interests of research, fun and truth, i engaged the services of a certain data logger in an effort to determine exactly how Erik manages to do what most of us can't.. squeeze the best out of an M6... What did I find out? Well not much really, except he's definitely not flat shifting! I guess Erik you got a little excited on this run?... 7000rpm! then bogged down to 3200rpm on the launch!.... Anyway, this was one of your worst runs, yet still two tenths better than me.. arghhhh!!

Dayum Luke, sounds like your car didnt want to go home. Sorry we didnt really get a chance to catch up and compare tuning notes.

Next time, PCM's at 50 paces!

I did wander over for a while but you guys looked pretty busy sorting something out - so I wandered off again. Probably looked like an old TV ad if anyone remembers it "Lost old fell, c'mon hop in"

But there will always be next time

Well, in the interests of research, fun and truth, i engaged the services of a certain data logger in an effort to determine exactly how Erik manages to do what most of us can't.. squeeze the best out of an M6... What did I find out? Well not much really, except he's definitely not flat shifting! I guess Erik you got a little excited on this run?... 7000rpm! then bogged down to 3200rpm on the launch!.... Anyway, this was one of your worst runs, yet still two tenths better than me.. arghhhh!!

I think Erik is a cyborg of some kind, must be.

Check out the intake temps... and i think at this stage it was "cool"..

Where is a log of your run Dunc ? To compare notes & shift times :)

We had trouble with the wideband; so we kind of gave up on the idea of logging. I still should have logged my runs, maybe next time. It would be interesting to overlay my run, to see where I am going wrong!
