To further the development of Bomi Productions:bow: and his great recordings, I am seaching for video cam corders with av iputs to allow us to record from other devices.

Does anyone have any lying around they dont use or are happy to lend us for track days etc.

Thanks

It allows you to record vhs etc onto your pc as a movie file :)

I get you... that would only be useful if I had my pc at the track wouldnt it? I need to be able to record to something at the trck via AV cables.

Nah nah, record it to tape @ track, take it home and press record on the pc and play on the camcorder

Pretty sure Scotty's plans are to record from small (eg: wireless or bullet) camers that themselves don't have any recording capabilities. You need to plug them into something that can record - either a PC with video in, a VCR, a PVR, or a Camcorder with video in.

For in-car use, a camcorder with video-in works best (for obvious reasons ;)).

Cheers,

The Sony DCR-HC96 I have, has the analogue-to-digital conversion feature. Not too many still have the feature like they all used to a couple of years ago. You can find the older models that had that feature a bit cheaper these days like the DCR-TRV22/33 or HC30/40. Keep your eye out on eBay etc.

Other option is something like a Canopus ADVC-110 or similar but you will need a laptop in the car with you during your session to record off it.

Scotty,

Checked out my camera last night, it has a little input section with a mic plug and a video input plug, but it isn't AV. I'm not 100% but you are welcome to grab the camera some time and have a play.

We already know it can take the punishment of a Scotty cam session !!!

I have been... but you have to sift through all the crap. Not to mention that the average joe doesnt put up all the info when selling a second hand item...

Feel free to keep a look out though... (anyone:up2sum: ).

Nick, I might borrow it on Thursday if you dont need it for the weekend. Can you tell me make and model?

Scotty ...

How did you go with the Bullet cameras.

Have been looking at a couple of systems, that allow multiple cameras onto one camera.

Have seen some of the videos, and was curious how you've done some of the outside camera footage.

Wanting to mount camera at ground level front and back.... or bonnet/boot level, plus 1 inside.

Mavman,

I ended up going the cheaper option for the time being and begging and borrowing mini ''security'' cams which are wired and wireless. I have yet to play. I also pinched a mixing box, which enables the individual selection of mulitple cameras... ie you can only record one at a time.

I do have one system in mind from america, which has some nifty add on functions. the key thing that it comes back to is having a handycam with AV inputs.

With regards to camera locations... Bomi is really the one to talk to. While my recorded footage is unique... troys is effective.

Basically I believe troy mounted the camera in the towbar bumper slot and used plastic ties for the rear, and wedged it in the front bumper near the number plate for the front. At the last Wakefield day troy mounted the camera on a tripod out the side window, and then just changed whther it was facing fron or back.

If you are interested in the US stuff, PM me and we can discuss it further.

Hey Scotty and all

thanks for the info. Looking at buying the Sony DCR-HC96 for my first track day and see how it goes.

After that I'll most probably buy a kit of Helmet Cameras.... and using a multi box run 2-4 cameras into 1 AV input, with a picture in picture thing.

Will post more info as i go, and keep an eye out other ideas.

Well ... ended up with just a Canon MX430 at this stage, with the headrest mount described on other thread.

http://www.trackchat.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=582

Security/Bullet cameras will come later ....... had choice, money on cameras, or money on upgrades ????? or tires !!!

I did ask on other thread, but will here as well.... How do you all reduce vibration in the picture ???

Mavman, I have an old (2002) Panasonic and it has digital shake removal and it takes it all out.

Any shake/vibration that gets through just adds to the in car feeling.

A tip with the mount Dunc spoke about is to mount it flush against the cushon of the head rest for extra support.
