Hello Track Chatters. As many would know, Eastern Creek Raceway is undergoing a track extension. Over the last few months I've popped out there to see how its all going. I also found the plans online HERE (http://majorprojects.planning.nsw.gov.au/index.pl?action=view_job&job_id=4922) as pdf's under the heading Attachments & Resources. I was surprised to see that the old turn 6/7 has been changed from a right/left to just a left now. Looks like all lap records will have to be scrapped as the old layout will no longer be available.
This is a map of the new section in blue...

This image taken Friday (standing at T6/7 looking back to T5) shows how its been straightened out...

This images was taken a few months ago at the new Turn 10. You can see the track marked out. It still looks like this, just with more mud. Turns 11 & 12 will be very tight.

I'll try to keep a few updates coming for those playing at home :D
Fanastic. Will spectators still be able to wander around the back part of the track?

Yeh, spectators will be able to wander around the back. In this image I've coloured in with orange the sections that highlight the spectator areas. I've also drawn in the new bridge (in red) that will allow spectators into that "Island" spectator area.

The ARDC also have some updates on their website HERE (http://www.ardc.com.au/articles/General/TRACK-CONSTRUCTION-UPDATE/65)

Thats unreal to finally see some progress...
To be honest I was under the impression that it wasnt happening... or is this a watered down version of the big plan they had?
Will the V8s return? is that the gap in the V8 calendar?

I doubt the V8's will return.
ARDC do not want the hassle of the V8's.
The place is booked out almost every weekend of the year.....The V8 governing body take 95% of (or something ridiculous like that) of gate takings so its not worth it for ARDC when a club meeting will make them more money with less hassle!
Having said that we need a real race track in Sydney to hold a major race meeting for the top level of national category in the championship too prove a point to the government that we need more tracks because there is genuine interest in motorsport at all levels!

This i a watered down version of the original master plan, whch called for $60m and 6x track configs. Still, looking good!

Any tracks good
Matt have you been slapped lately - do you think the government gives a rats about anything , bar revenue
But it would be nice if they thought about something other than homebush - like permanently - with room to pass.
Cheers

Thats what I mean Stu,
It needs to be in the heads of the morons that we need facilities like Oran park, Amaroo and EC....And if there were more venues maybe so many ppl wouldnt be dying on our roads.....They could use the areas to train drivers properly.....and to allow "speed of the streets"....

It's OK Matt new what you meant.
Matthew from Wakefield has got a good dream - buy and build race tracks
Some people can winge about the track as much as they like - but at least someone is having a go and giving us somewhere to race - Privateer style.
Thanks Wakefield / Winton
By the way Matt - you are about to get one big arse storm - came through here about 1/2 hour ago
Let you know on Canberra results next week and following week Bathurst Sports Sedan.
You wouldn't believe it - Karen got me some corner weight scales (wedding gift) and bugger me had to try em - and the Falcon came up within 2%
Wonder if she can send em back for a credit.
Will put some weights up shortly - hopefully check R33 before Canberra if we can - should be interesting!!
Cheers

**Here is a bit of an update**
The Eastern Creek GP circuit can now be used with the newly modified turn 6. Where the new section of track will join the existing circuit, the new tar has been laid. For the rest of the new section, most of the concrete walls and tyre walls are in place. I think they're just waiting on some good weather to lay the rest of the primary layer of tar. Here are a few photos of how it looks at the moment.

Great pics ... thanks Aeron.
:bravo:
Looks pretty tight through the start of the new section, not a huge fan of that at this stage ... however the flow from the end of the new section through the old turn 8 and down into the hairpin looks sensational!

Great to have the variety of tracks - no Doubt, mini drag strips aren't a priority!!

It does look tight, doesn't it. And you know if it looks tight from standing at the fence then its even tighter getting through there in a car. Should be interesting.

It's starting to take shape. And looks like we'll have the GP track for the NSW state motorracing championships at the end of March. Looking forward to seeing what improvements i can get on the new GP track.

I can't figure it out? Is the original GP track still there with the same straight? Have they just put on a new short track in the centre?
