I want to replace my door speakers in the VX to match the pioneer head unit and the question is can the door panels be pulled off without much problem and will the 6" speakers slip straight in to replace the existing ones? Thanks.:eyes:

The whole door trim comes off just like the front, just a few screws to undo and the whole lot lifts off. I didnt find it difficult but there are PDFs running around with instructions. With the rear speakers depending on the exact speaker dimensions some will fowl the rear window when it is completely down so test it all before putting the trim back on.
I replaced the 4 speakers in the SS recently on all the doors.
You may need to get spacer rings for the speakers as the cones may sit deeper than the factory ones depending on which type you have as they foul on the speaker shroud inside the door panel.

I disconnected the rear door speakers in the VX and put 6"*9"'s on the rear shelf where the calais has them - I thought the factory position in to low in teh door to get decent sound?. Holden has the outline on the shelf to cut through and then you can get the Calails grill from Holden / nvu maybe or ebay.
The front door speakers where an exact fit - possibly just lucky.

Matty,
Ive done the speakers in my VX a few times now - started with cheapos, blew them up, went to Jaycar Response, blew them up, put in Sony Xplods a few weeks back ... waiting to remove door trims for the 4th time!
Its easy to do once you know how, a few little hidden screws and a few little tips and tricks make the job easier.
Ive managed to put 6" in no worries, I think the Sonys were 6.5" which also slotted into the standard hole no worries.
I'm happy to give ya a hand one day, only takes a few hours - less with 2 people doing it.
Let me know!
cheers

no worries, let me know when - Im usually kicking back at home on a Saturday.
Im absolutely useless when it comes to wiring it up so you'll either need to give that a shot yourself or get someone who can crimp lugs or solder the wires to the new speakers, but at least you wont have the problem I had of breaking something then finding out there was a phillips head screw behind a blanking plug or just out of sight or something :eyes:
Then again while the door trims are off you might also want to rewire it to hook up an amp to the speakers? (slightly more difficult but not impossible) Just something to think about

GDay Matt,
Some good pics of how to remove the doorskins can be found here:

Although not directly related to removing the speakers it may help.
Cheers

once youve got the door trim off the speakers arent that hard, especially if your putting in 6 or 6.5" because their just simply unscrew the old, rewire the new, screw in the new and reverse putting the door trims on
