Well I spent the daylight hours of Australia day putting 4 new speakers into the SS. A pair of 260W, 3 Way 6X9's and some 220W 3 Way 6 inch for the rear door. Oh the are Pioneer's!

They all went in without to much hassel but the parcel shelf set up is shit to say the least. The holes are there and the inserts come out easy with a good hit with the palm of your hand but what shit is the cover that sits on the parcel shelf itself.

The holes DO NOT line up with the speaker holes, it looks really crappy.

Anyone got anys idea about what I can do to get a new Parcel shelf??

The sound is so so so much better the standard as you would expect.

Next are some splits for the front, then some amps and maybe some fully sicknessness :lmoa:

A couple of ideas - find another one at a wreckers, or you used to be able to get Autobarn to make up a custom shelf. No idea on price though....

i used to make my own rear shelves bomi, they are relaitive easy and then u can make it around the speaker setup u are running.

the std speakers are crap, buts its even worse when u add good aftermarket componants like alpine, pioneer etc and then u see how bad it really was.

im going through the process now

Ive put a simple Xplod 12" 1500 watt sub in the boot, running it off an amp that doesnt suit it so Im sure the blow the amp up at some point in the near future.

Xplod 6.5" 4 way speakers in the front doors, ran out of money for the back doors lol. Alpine head unit with ipod etc.

Next will be some parcel shelf 6x9's run off the amp for some added oomph, thats probably why I didnt waste any money on door speakers when Im going to get better sound from the parcel shelf speakers anyway.

The sub is mainly there because Ive never setup a sub before, so it was to learn how to do it, but the added boom boom isnt bad, nothing too major. :stick: I say this because people say "take the parcel shelf insert out and put the calais grille in so youve got bass booming through the parcel shelf, but I might just put 6x9's in and open the ski port when I want real doof doof boom on a weekend cruise for instance, coz one thing Ive learnt after a hard day at work the boom boom boom really pounds your head.

You can buy speaker grills for 6 x9 to fit the rear parcel shelf to tidy things up

Ebay is a start but your local car audio place or Autobarn have them and they range in price from $25 - $50 a pair.

Holden also sell the 6x9 speaker covers as they were fitted to the Calais.

Thanks for the ideas and info Matt and Pulse.

However Im still left with the fact that Holden and their design of the VY etc etc series cars rear parcel shelf GAP (Gastric Arse Piss) to say the least.

The speakers sit say for EG 120cm apart and the holes in the parcel shelf cover are 140cm apart.

So I have got new speakers putting sound out to half a hole :headbang:

Poo Poo and Poo.

Thanks again for the grill idea fellas, looks like ill have to go with that to cover the sgit job Holden have done in this area.
