I used a drift box on the weekend at Wakefield park and these things are great. I have only had it a day before the Track day and with just a short amount of time i was able to work the basics of the unit.
for the People that have not seen them, they are performance and drift meter, that can do lap timing, drift angle, 0-60km/h,0-100km/h,0-1000m,power figure, and speed display. and it all works of GPS and powered by a cigarette lighter. if you can believe it, at Wakefield park it could find 8 satellites!
As Far as the lap timing goes, it took me one full lap to set up the start/line (you can have up to 6 split times) then away you go, each time you go past that set point it will start timing. Its as easy as taking from one car and putting it another at the track and you don't need to change anything.
it saves all of the data to an SD card, so when you get home you can can download the data on to your computer and you can replay, or overlay your laps and see where you made or lost time.
here is a sample of my best lap (SS ute) overlayed on the best lap of an EVO IX I put the unit in for a session. the graph so speed over distance, you can also do speed over time.
