Looks like a good line up and variety of cars and drivers Dave.

Have a safe run. :)

However am I the only that sees something odd about the list?

Extra hands are always welcome. Racing starts at about 10.45am. Hopefully there won't be too much to do, but some good racing to watch! 35 cars into turn 2 on lap one should be.. umm... interesting!

Qualifying: Under overcast skies 33 cars set out to chase a competitive grid position. In quite a bit of traffic I managed to do a 1:54.15 to qualify 17th, which I was pretty happy with. There was a large group of cars from about 1:53 to 1:56, so there was bound to be some close racing.

Race 1 ? 5 laps. Result - DNF: After glancing down to see how many revs I had on board at the start, I looked back up to see the flag already dropped and the field away. The clutch was quickly dumped and away we went. There was a significant amount of traffic heading into turn 2 (which is a long hair-pin bend for those unfamiliar with Eastern Creek), but everyone was pretty well behaved. Things settled down and I was in a pretty close dice with a few other cars. After hesitating seeing a yellow flag coming onto the straight, I lost a little momentum which allowed a Pulsar to sneak up inside me at turn 1. We continued very close racing until lap 3 when the car began to cough and splutter. At the end of lap 4 (after dropping a couple of positions) I decided to pit. The problem? no fuel. It turns out that I had been putting the dip stick too far into the tank, therefore giving me an incorrect fuel reading. I thought I was starting with about 25litres? when in fact there was probably not much more than 5. Lesson learned!

Race 2 ? 7 laps. Result ? 15th: The DNF in race one relegated me to the rear of the grid for race 2. I was paying attention at the start this time, and made a great start to pick up a couple of spots straight away. By the end of lap 1 I was up to 19th, and had a few great dices to claw back a few more positions and finish in 15th. One of which was with a ?Toyrana?. That is, and early Torana, with a Toyota motor exactly the same as the Corona (in fact, built by the same guy). He had a little more in a straight line, but I was quicker through Turn 1, and managed to pass him under brakes going into turn 2. The other was with a Mazda 808 with a rotary engine. Very quick in a straight line, but a little erratic on the track. I had noticed he usually ran wide on turn 4, which left him out of position for turn 5. I managed to get a much better run through 4, and then get up inside and past straight after 5. Probably the most satisfying overtake I?ve made so far. Rain was starting to fall, and track was getting greasy, so I was happy to hold on for 15th.

Race 3 ? 10 laps. Result ? 13th. The track was dry again for the final race. Starting 15th, I again made a pretty good start to pass a couple of cars, only to be passed by another couple of faster cars starting from the rear of grid. At the end of lap 1 I was in 16th. After starting to make my way up the field (having passed the 808 again in similar fashion to before), I came out of turn 9 really well only to hit some oil left by another competitor. The car stepped sideways very quickly. I managed to catch it, but ended up on the grass, allowing the 808 and a Ford Falcon TE50 (5.6 litre V8) to go past. Rejoining the track to chase them, we came across a mess of cars spinning and body work covering the track at Turn 1. We managed to negotiate this successfully and settled back down to race. The 808 fell off the track at turn 9 going too deep under brakes, which left me right behind the TE50 for about the last 5 laps of the race. While I was generally the quicker of the 2 (my best lap in the race of 1:53.74 compared to his 1:54.37), I just couldn?t find a way past. He had a little too much in a straight line and drove well to prevent me passing under brakes and around the back. Whilst I was still taking things pretty easy (no mad lunges under brakes or anything), I still have a few good looks and put a fair bit of pressure on him ? particularly on the last lap, hoping for a mistake that never came.

So all in all, a very satisfying day. The car went well, the driver didn?t do too badly either. Still learning massive amounts every time I?m out there. Unfortunately there is no video this time, however Craig King has taken some great stills, which can be seen here: www.flickr.com/photos/myracing

Thanks guys. I often feel a little self indulgent writing it up, as I'm pretty much re-living it as I write it.

However, as long as people are still enjoying it, I'll keep doing it!
