Is there any interest for attending this event next year?
The Bathurst International Motor Festival (http://www.bimf.com.au/)
BIMF - Easter April 06-08 2007, Bathurst, NSW
Mount Panorama will host the second annual WPS Bathurst International Motor Festival (BIMF) from 06-08 April 2007.
Gaining inspiration from the world famous Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, the inaugural 2006 WPS Bathurst International Motor Festival (BIMF) was conceived to showcase contemporary race cars alongside historical cars, and drivers of yesteryear, experiential activities and displays in a Festival environment.
An Event like this has never been staged before in Australia and as such offered something unique to fans. Easter at Bathurst however, was held annually from 1938 to 1973 and was the birthplace of production car racing in Australia.
In 2007, the WPS BIMF will unveil a range of new initiatives including the return of the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour Production Car Race, last seen at Mount Panorama in 1994. For those motoring enthusiasts, you will recall Mazda took the chequered flag with the late Greg Hansford and Neil Crompton behind the wheel.
All attendees will have the rare opportunity to experience the thrill of the Mount Panorama track in a hot lap in a V8 Ride Car from Paul Morris' V8 Superschool.
The Event will include three support categories along with Expert Demonstrations from Motor Sport Legends and increased high octane entertainment on Pit Straight.
While camping will be restricted to the bottom of the Mountain, the TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN will be accessible by patrons in their vehicles during race hours.
BIMF will be promoted and managed by a Joint Venture between the Bathurst Regional Council (BRC) and Global Entertainment Team Pty Ltd (GET) - a combination of motoring passion, local knowledge and sports and automotive marketing experience.
The crowds will be minimal, and the 12 hour race will give us the chance to see how real world cars (well almost) compare.
I'm definitely going to this and if there is any interest from members, then will look at accomodation and logistics.
Cheers,
Scott

Definate interest here Scat, probably not for the whole weekend but I would love to see the 12 hour.
I know I have a trip to Coffs in April for work, just can't remember what weekend that is. I'll check that and make sure that it's OK on the family front, but very keen !!!
:D
I could be up for that Scott
sounds good, i would love to go

This does sound tempting....
I will have to check the diary...
I dont get issued with next years pass outs till later...:D
Skat, that sounds like it would be an awesome time. I would love to go but I seriously doubt Ill have the time to go due to work.
As that date approaches Ill see if I can make it.
Cheers for the info.

Well, looks like there is at least enough interest to start planning :D
Might have to see if "Cafe Maree" will be open during that weekend. There is also the possibility of the new "resort" being open by then.
I'll update this thread as things unfold.

Cafe Maree? i suppose you had to be there!
Maree & George were our gracious hosts for the Bathurst weekend. Maree cooked more food than we could possibly eat every day, and bloody fantastic food at that.
The house came to be known as Caf? Maree as within 5 minutes of arriving back from the track we had something to eat. :D

WPS BATHURST INTERNATIONAL MOTOR FESTIVAL April 6 -8 2007
Newsletter 4
The first 2 entries for the 2007 WPS Bathurst Showroom Enduro have
been lodged by Holden Motorsport, who will participate as a
manufacturer with a Holden Astra Turbo CTDi in the Eco Diesel/Hyrid
class under 3.5 litres, and a Holden Astra Sri Turbo Coupe in the 2
wheel drive Hot Hatch class. Entries opened on the 1st Of November
and Holden Motorsport Manager Simon McNamara was keen to hit
the ground running as soon as entries opened. No decision on who
will steer the cars yet, but expect it to be some high profile Holden
pilots. The battle for pole position in the entry stakes was hard
fought between Holden Motorsport, Bob Pearson, Bob Hughes, Brian
Walden and Scott Juniper.
With over 130 expressions of interest for grid positions, all those
intending to lodge a formal entry should do so before the holiday
break. A limited number of grid positions will be held for each class to
ensure a balanced field, and with 10 classes eligible, grid positions will
be strictly limited. As the administration office for the 12 Hour will be
closed until January 22, it is recommended that entries be lodged prior
to Christmas. The first 5 fully paid up entries in each class lodged will
be guaranteed a race start subject to normal qualifying criteria. Entry
forms, and supplementary regulations can be found at www.bimf.com.au
The NINE Network has confirmed that the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour
Showroom Enduro will be televised in a 2 hour special Saturday April
21 in an afternoon timeslot. The special will also be replayed on Fox
Sports, through TVNZ New Zealand and Motors TV Europe. A limited
number of in car cameras are available for the event at a cost of
$2,200 including GST. For more details contact Craig Denyer at

I attended last years (the first one) and did the Paul Morris hotlap.
Cost $200 for a trip that lasted just over 2 minutes, but it was worth it. Gives you a different feel to the track, you really notice all the bumps and dips down Conrod!
This years is supposed to more organised and, as mentioned, includes a 12 hour race.
IM IN - let me know what we're planning and count me and my mate in :)

I just can't be stuffed, to many people that think they are gods gift to the LS1 community and too much BS, whispers, rumors, lies behind your back. On top of all of that ... I can't be stuffed travelling 10 hours for some drag racing.

These sort of places are supposed to be for people with similar interests to come together, enjoy their toys, enjoy motorsport, have a chat, some lunch and have a good time - the good time bit being the most important.
Oh and guys, I strongly reccoment the Paul Morris hot lap. I did it last year and its fkn awesome, as some of you would recall my post elsehwere about the day.
you dont notice the bumps down conrod till your screaming down it in a highly modified V8. Then all of a sudden half way down it rises back up and you feel your gut go whoad. I copped all the crap about how certain peoples cars are better then the one I did the hot lap in and whatever else - who cares about specs, this is a chance to hit the Mountain at almost break neck speed. Definately gives you a better feel for the track and the best fun I ever had.

well boys whats the plan?
The 12 hour race starts 5:45am on Sunday 8th April.
* is there anyone going just for the 12 hour event that would like to team up early Sunday morning somewhere along the M4 or Gt Western Highway (say Caltex at Glenbrook) for the trip to the 12 hour race?
* who will already be at the track? :waving:
I'm thinking I'll only be going Sunday for the 12 hour race. I'm supposed to be working the Saturday night till 9pm, but I'll try and switch that for a morning shift. Costs $35 at the gate for the Sunday, but for 12 hour enduro with some good company why the hell not
Lets get a definate plan going here ... only 22 days away

Finally sorted out some plans for the weekend and tigs and I will be there Saturday and Sunday.
We plan to drive up early Saturday morning and meet up with you and anyone else going on the Saturday. Shall we say at the Caltex/Macca's service centre (Northbound) on the M4 at 5am? Or Glennbrook if its easier for you.
First sesison on Saturday starts at 7.40am

Well we drove up Saturday night, left home at 7:40pm and arrived at the motel at 10pm ... that was bang on the speed limit absolutely everywhere. Pretty happy with that trip. We saw one cop on the M7 and I got breath tested coming into Bathurst, otherwise we saw nothing.
Early rise on Saturday and off to the track with Scat, Chris & Tom. We were seated on pit straight for the start of the race and then spent the day moving to all corners of the track. We all managed to have a sleep at some point which made the drive home a little easier. Racing was fantastic, I have never seen such clean driving, after 12 hours virtually every car was untouched.
Car of the day for me was the BMW 335ci. It flogged every STi and every Evo out there, all day. These are cars that are constantly forgiven there short comings because they are untouchable on the track, and this luxury Coupe completely flogged them. When I'm an old man I will buy a top end BMW Coupe, they are simply awesome.
Other big surprise for me was the BMW 130i, bloody ugly but an awesome little package. 3 were in the top ten and they didn't miss a beat all day. When sitting on the chase we watched them kill pretty much everything under brakes, time and time again they made up 10s of meters under brakes from full speed, and handled like they were on rails.
Finally, the diesels. Very impressive, they were very quiet and they mentioned that the Alfa averaged 17L / 100kms for the race ... that's right, THE RACE !!! It was averaging 7L / 100kms behind the pace car and they stopped for driver changes based on the maximum time for any one driver stint (3 hours) because they didn't run out of fuel in that time. 1000kms off a tank sounds pretty good to me.
After the race we met up with Kyle and had some dinner in Bathurst, then jumped in the car and drove home. I walked in the door, after dropping my bro-in-law Tom home, and 10:15pm. My face is sun burnt and I am pretty stuffed but I had a great time. Thanks Scat & Chris for the company, now bring on October.
The race result :)

What a great weekend it was. Started off a bit sketchy driving down in the Monaro when it started to rain not long after leaving, we heard this burbling noise coming from the car, so we slowed right down and were about to turn it off as the noise was something strange ive never heard before, i closed the sunroof and it disappeared thank god for that. Then when we were on the freeway close to bathurst the engine temps were lowering by the minute, the engine temp dropped to 58degrees just before we got into town, anyone know what temp the thermostat closes on a ls1? Wasnt as much as a concern as the 1st incident although it got us thinking about the lubrication quality of the oil at that temp.
Saturdays line up of events was unreal, we were there early enough to watch it all from the start, highlight for me as well was the old school production cars as they were the only cars with serious power exiting most corners sideways and the sound of them was aweseome.
Halfway through the gt production cars, they announced hotlaps around the track in a v8 supercar, 2 people for $100 in the back seat, so off we went to pit lane to sign up, the girl behind the desk  , no one wanted to pay extra for the front seat so i was lucky enough to jump in. Driving down pit lane the driver started talking and it was a chick, instantly the seat belt harness was tightened lol. She was Samantha Reid driving the pink astra in the 12hr race. We exited pit lane and she put her foot down and im thinking what the hell is this? Acceleration was utterly dissapointing from a tricked up vy ss, ultimate respect after the 1st corner though when the accelerator was held flat where i thought the brakes would have been on. Driving through the top of the mountain she was driving this thing on the edge this was no sunday drive, inches from the wall, over the ripple strips, driving through mcphillamy park and down the s bends through the tight twisty section had me worried, top of 3rd gear on the accelerator, these cars are just unbeatable, if you ever get the chance do it!
The rest of the day was non stop racing from various classes, never a time where the track was empty, was more entertaining than the fill in stuff they have for the bathurst weekend in October. Kyle that was classic you taking photos at the end of the main straight, every car just about ran wide into the sand traps covering you in dust, was most enjoyable :waving:
Yesterdays racing was really good clean racing, was a pitty there was only a couple of v8's lapping as the sound of some of the celicas and the like was pure rice, more sound than anything else. Have to agree with Nick those little 130i bmws were unbelievable the speed they had down conrod and the ability to carry it through corners was very impressive.
All up was a great weekend had a blast will definitely be heading out next year. Was good to catch up with everyone that went, Nick,Tom, Kyle, John etc.

Lol Kyle. You must still be stuffed from the weekend. Man you looked exhausted when you walked into the Angus bar and grill last night.
We sure packed alot into 2 days as Chris and Nick have reported beautifully. Not much more to add from me. It was a brilliant weekend and this event will only get bigger. Very nice being able to sit anywhere at all due to the small crowd. Unlike October when you need to be 7 feet tall to see the track at some stages.
One thing Chris forgot to mention was the run in we had with a couple of hundred head of ant. We parked in the wrong spot on Saturday. Smack bang in the middle of a bull ants nest without seeing it. On the way back to the hotel, Chris gets bitten by one and I asked him what it was. "Bull ant, hey, theres another one, shit !!! theres another. Fcuk !!!! theres hundreds of them !!" So we drove back to the hotel with ants crawling all over us, across the dash over the windscreen - I swear it was like a horror movie.
When we got to the hotel, we leapt out of the car and started shaking and carrying on with a few hotel guests looking at us warily lol. The ants wanted out of the car as well, so we left the doors open for a while and tried to forget about the trauma we just went through.
2 days later and I'm still getting them out of there. Got three of them this arvo.
Anyway, the racing was awesome, the little BMW's were a real eye openner and the 335i is one very quick luxo. The Celica's exhaust note was just plain annoying and the Astra and Alpha deisels, while off the pace, were far from a novel experiment and will be back next year in greater numbers I'm sure.
Only 3 V8's in the field and a good result for John Bowe and team, winning their class in the Ford XR8.
Thanks Chris, Kyle, Nick and Tom for a fantastic weekend. Can't wait till next year which I'm sure will host a bigger field.
John it was great to meet you finally. The ute is looking good !
Cheers,
Scott
