WINTER DRAG DAY PRIVATE TRACK HIRE
SUNDAY 24th JUNE 2007
Cool dense air equals quick 1/4 mile ET's.:yep:
Following the scorching hot drag day in January, TrackChat and the good folks at WSID have got together to arrange a much more user friendly WINTER track hire.
This friendly and enjoyable gathering of car lovers is open to Any car... and Any engine.
V8
Fast 4's
V6 - Straight 6
Rotaries
Nitrous fed
1. It's not about how quick or slow your car will go, its all about having fun with like minded people.
2. Please vote in the poll and tell us what you want. IE Straight out grudge racing/Bracket attack/Go to whoa. The poll will close on the 10th of MAY 2007
3. There will be prizes for best ET in grudge racing and a "Lucky door/gate prize" A BBQ Breakfast and lunch will be provided for Gold coin donation by the Lions club.
4. All final payments must be received by 10th of June 2007, and a 25% deposit is required to be made as a show of good faith to the organisers. Account details are below.
5. EDIT All deposits must be received by 01 JUNE 2007 to secure your spot, if no payment is received then you will loose your spot and people on the reserve list will take your spot. This rule is in place so that we can get all the names of drivers and cars together in plenty of time to send to WSID, no last min BS that stuffs everyone around. :yep: :)
Account details are:
Account Name - TrackChat.com.au
BSB - 082 201
Account No. - 87 067 5634
Bank - National Australia Bank
Please use your user name when making payments ... As payments are received, details will be updated in this thread.
PLEASE NOTE:
Please read the attached rules that WSID has supplied for the day. Adding your name to the list is an acknowledgement that you have read and understood WSID's Private track hire rules.
WSID PRIVATE HIRE RULES (http://www.photothingo.com/users/WSID/WSID%20Private%20Track%20Hire%20Agreement.pdf)<----------
NOTE Two important WSID rules
Any vehicle that runs faster than a 11.0 sec E/T is NOT eligible to participate
All drivers who run faster than 12.0sec E/T MUST have an approved ANDRA licence.
Cheers and we look forward to seeing you there,

I'll go a dedicated race car next time. Then might see the circuits.
My old man was right :headbang: its much cheaper to do these things when they aren't your daily driver.
At this stage, all I want to do is head out in June, and run a PB.
My record is at a Nirvana smashing :stick: 16.152 @ 60.5 mph

Guys ... when adding your name to the list can you please quote the last entry and simply add your name inside the [ LIST=1 ] ... [ /LIST ] format with a [ * ] before your name.
If you copy and paste we loose the entire list format and it gets very messy very quickly, especially when someone pulls out. If you are inside the list format with a [ * ] before your name the system numbers automatically.
No doubt this won't happen ... but it's worth asking.
:D
See how i go closer to the day, might try come and out and take some photos. Unless someone leaves a briefcase full of money on my doorstep tomorrow, then ill be racing

Dumb Question: What is Whoa to go? I thought thats what drag racing is
RedVYIISS
14-03-2007, 01:58 PM
it's actually go to whoa...
It's a short drag race, then slam on the anchors and finish inside a pair of lines. To finish, you've got to pass the first (finish) line and if you pass the 2nd line you're disqualified.

no mate, Bomi has said that he'd prefer people put their name on one list or the other (and not both). Makes it easier to keep a check on total numbers as there is a cut-off point where people will then go on a 'reserve' list.

Chris (MYV8- BA Xr8 ute n/a) might be keen and also another mate Rich that just joined (Hot460- BF Xr8 ute s/c) might come as well

Paul a 25% deposit will be fine mate.
That would be great if you could get the missus to have a crack at the 1/4, we only had one chicky driving at the last drag day that was in Jan, she had a Red C'dore ute.
Mate i'll just put your name up again with your wifes name next to it, whats her name Paul? She will have to gegister on the day etc, your car will have to separate numbers on the windscreen, yours and hers.

Troy :)
Sorry mate, just got around to reading this thread again now !! :)
The girlfriends name is Sharon, i told her she is having a go and she was a little bit reluctant but i'll talk her around by June... If the car is still stock, she'll race - if it's modded by then (which i should be if i finish the house fast enough... :p ) she will probably wuss out given she has never done any sort of racing before and the fastest thing she has owned is an auto Astra !!
Will whack some money into the account in the next few days to confirm our place, probably Thursday... ;)
Cheers,

mate it looks the goods but the price is out of reach for me while i try and keep everything else in budget.
two small turbos are fairly cheap but going for a single requies a bloody big one and hense big dollars. i never really looked into a single setup but figured it would be a bit dearer cause of the size required but when the other twins fell through i got a big shock when i checked into single pricing:shock: .

thanks Seedy, I didn't think of that ... it's a bit silly that you can call an account "TrackChat.com.au" and then no internet banking system will accept that name.

I find it quiet strange, you wouldnt think a forum with 20,000+ members wouldnt have any problems with one of this size.
They are having a Drag day at Heathcote at the end of may, Im also going to that one, maybe they thinks its clashing with it but with 80 cars entered you would think not.
On a good note I was talking to my tuner last night and he is considering bringing his beast up from Vic for a run at WSID at this meet, would be good to see as he has set just about every record for the ford boss powered cars with this ute and is thinking of running n/a then later on going out with a bang on the bottle, he's already done a under tyred wheelspinning 11.0@132mph 2.0 60ft on the gas. And if some of you guys are going to the ls1 nats keep a look out for a black BA ute as he will be there as well.

Man I know you can peddle, but scheez :up2sum:
The question was actually for a mate that has a several cars. He'd like to possibly run all 3 of them (not at the same time, smart-arses!!). If I recall correctly, single entrant / multiple cars (of same owner) used to be allowed for nil extra cost.
Erik I went back and read the WSID rules thats are in the first post and I got for you...
MULTIPLE DRIVERS
Multiple drivers for a given vehicle will be permitted up to a limit of four on the strict condition that all drivers concerned are
appropriately licensed for the performance potential of the specified vehicle. Arrangements for multiple drivers must be
advised by The Hirer and approved by WSID prior to the Track Hire. Where these drivers are not already entered as
primary or secondary drivers, they will be required to be listed separately as multiple drivers on the Entry List provided by
The Hirer and pay the secondary driver entry fee to The Hirer. Should the arrangement be abused by any of the
participants, the arrangement will be cancelled immediately and no refund will be issued to The Hirer on an offender?s
behalf. ( Also refer: Driver swapping; Primary drivers; Secondary drivers; Wristbands).
MINIMUM/MAXIMUM DRIVERS
The minimum number of primary drivers is 40; the maximum number of primary drivers is 50. Authorised secondary drivers
are not included in either of these limits.
Hope this helps.

Talking of V8owners...I just done their last private day March25 and noticed
they had organised an ANDRA official to be on site to hand out licences for guys that wanted "super street" licences.I know im going under 12(99%sure).If there is
a few guys thinking of going under, is it worth getting an official out on the day?...The good thing about this is you get it there and then and dont need photo,no postage all that crap.Even in the future if your thinking of getting one,now would be a good time to do it....Some feedback on who's interested
would be good.If we get the numbers an official may come out.Maybe this question should be posed on LS1 site as well?
BTW i cracked a 12.15:)

I assumed being in person with a civil licence(photo) was enough to do the deed.I thought you only need a pic when doing it by mail.Anyway its enough to keep racing on the day I hope im right as im on the cusp and a bit worried.
Tony and Erik.
Just off the phone with JH.
Erik, you, Erik may run 3 cars. Its not for everyone as we could end up with 150 cars and way less runs, so its a case by case basis so to speak.
Tony, there would be one there on the day if we organised it but it could, could cost us extra.
Do what I did last year for the Drag day that never was and post off an application that you can get from their website. It took 10 days.
That is what I recomend.

No worries :) It was just a thought.

I assumed being in person with a civil licence(photo) was enough to do the deed.I thought you only need a pic when doing it by mail.Anyway its enough to keep racing on the day I hope im right as im on the cusp and a bit worried.
If there is a ANDRA official there, pay on the day with usual ID for a SST provisional licence, get a recipt and get your licence posted to you then must put a photo on it your self otherwise licence is not valid.

Erik, you, Erik may run 3 cars. Its not for everyone as we could end up with 150 cars and way less runs, so its a case by case basis so to speak.
Good man Troy. Excellent work :bravo: .

As I have never ventured down the strip before I was wondering if I can get some advice?
I'm planning on bringing the Typhoon to the drag day and want to know what is the ideal tyre pressures to run in the rear.......245/35/19's.
Thanks in advance,
Jake.

Definitely no expert, but when I ran mine on street tyres albeit 18s I used about 20psi. Given your Typhoon has even more power again I think you will have a battle with traction, but mph will be impressive.
That's my two cents FWIW
Good times nonetheless

Personally I found and have been told to run street tyres no lower than 25-30psi as they are not designed to run on low pressures and will not get a good foot print and very minimal burnout to much heat into them they will go slimy due to the silicon base compound.

Cool....thanks for that, I recently drove it around Oran Park and it was definitely getting slipperyer (if that's a word) as the laps went on.
Makes a lot of sense, I'll start out with 30 PSI and see how I go.
When I read 20-22PSI I was worried that it may just spin the tyre off the rim.
I also have read (ford forums) that some of the guys don't like to do a burnout prior to launch due to heat build up = loss of horsepower......anyone have any info on this?
Thanks again, learning heaps.............

I know i can do 10's but will make sure i dont on the day. i am sure i could do with the under 12's licence so im in bermuda

I used to drop my 18" 40 profile tyres down to about 24 PSI and did the tiniest little burnout just to clean off the tyre. With 35 profile you probably want at least 26 - 28 PSI in them.

Should do a small burnout to get some heat into your tyres as it will be better than cold tyres and to get the water off.
Look at your temp guages (especially oil temp) and take note where your optimum temp is (std running temp) and where it starts to get hot, I say oil temp as oil takes alot longer to get to temp and cool down than water temp and being a turbo it can suffer a fair bit from increased inlet temps. Myself turn the car off if sitting so bacically it dont get to warm idling but at the same time will be at normal running temps when your ready to go.
Dont be to worried at a private day as you will have plenty of time to cool down and do your runs, not like a street meet where you can be sitting idling for a while before you do your run.
Proberly be best not to worry to much about your temps till you get your launchs sorted out, that will take a bit of practice in its self and the launch is where you get most of your gains. Once launchs are going well you can direct your attention towards other things like where you are changing gears, you temps, etc.
Feel free to come over on the day and say hi and or need any help.

how does bracket work?
Who do you 'dial in' with?
who keeps track?
Do you get eliminated if you lose?
if you don't know/like what bracket racing is, do just have to sit out?

Master Rom, you dont know? Ok Ill explain.
At the day you will all be given a 100cm long bracket for the bracket racing. It attaches to the side of the throttle body and is moved or dialed to your desired bracket position, hence the term dial in.
Now when you dial in it will be in degrees, EG You dial in 45* and the person next to you Dials in 67*.
If you win and you have a higher number then the person next to you then you loose the race and are knocked out.
Hope this helps you in your quest to beat Nirvana in anything :yep:

Troy :):lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: Kidding.
This below is taken from here (http://www.trackchat.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=71)
"Dial in, this is used during bracket racing. Bracket racing is where you choose a time that you think your car will go no quicker than. The car next to you does the same thing. For example if you dial in 12.250 seconds and the car next to you dials in 12.000 then that car will receive the green light .250 of a second after your do. That’s right both cars launch at different times that means you have to be careful not to launch on the wrong light. If both cars dial in’s are accurate then theoretically they should both cross the finish line at the same time. If either car goes faster the their dial in then that car is disqualified. This is where RT (Reaction Time) becomes very important. Let look at RT’s now."
So on the day Seedy if you "break out" that is go faster then your dial then you will be knocked out.
All you do is work out your cars fastest ET and that gets written on your windscreen by a WSID official and they do the rest, its all but the same as normal 1/4 mile drag action.
Just that as above, you launch at different times.
Hope this explains it for those that didnt know about Bracket racing.
Troy :D

Seedy,
The bracket racing will be 'knockout format', but after each round it'll be 'normal grudge racing'. You'll still get as many runs as you want.... actually, you'll have time available for more runs than you'll really want!.... unless you're looneys like Duncan and Eric taking turns at hot lapping Duncan's car!
Bracket racing is a lot of fun.... last year Girch and I crossed the line something like .003 apart, neither of us 'red lighted' and neither 'broke out'. We were so close that neither of us knew who won till we picked up the time slips.
It can be very interesting, especially after you've plenty of experience and can 'pace yourself'. You can actually dial in a bit of leeway to allow for a possible poor launch, but you've then got to remember to back off early if you get a great launch..... but being perfectly consistant is probably easiest.... know anyone who can do 6 runs in a row within .05 seconds of each other?
Oztrack and Uncle are very good at it.... most of us would be lucky to be able to get +/- 0.2 seconds.... then add in our variability on our reaction times at the lights and it makes for exciting racing.
Someone with a consistant 'stock' car who doesn't get any wheel spin and who's capable of consistant reaction times of less than .04 seconds will win..... maybe!

So who won ???
Theoretically the C4 should be a great bracket racer, very consistent times and VERY easy to launch consistently. My only issue is the reaction times, as I have only done it 10 times or so I wouldn't expect anything real flash.

So who won ???
Theoretically the C4 should be a great bracket racer, very consistent times and VERY easy to launch consistently. My only issue is the reaction times, as I have only done it 10 times or so I wouldn't expect anything real flash.
Girch won
That's another good thing about a private day. Before the bracket racing begins you'll get in enough runs that you can do some experimenting with your reaction times by trying letting her rip at differing times in the Christmas tree sequence. Start off trying to red-light 'cause it doesn't matter! You'll be amazed at how much you can cut your R/T's just by experimenting.
Watch on the private day.... the only guys who'll red light are those who are getting the consistant short R/T's. None of the first or second timers will red light (unless they read this!).
PS Not that I've done all that many runs down the quarter, but I've only ever red lighted once.

I've just paid the balance. Thanks again for organising this, blokes.
Seeing that WSID seemed to kindly accomodate Erik with the multiple cars, do you think they'd let me register an extra driver at no cost? Last time it was $50, but that seems a bit tough given that the car can't do any more runs.
John

As I have never been to a drag strip before I have a few questions:
Will the burnout in a turbo car cause heatsoak which equals loss of power?
What pressure should I run in the rear tyres (245/35/19's)?
I've heard some people load up the converter in 2nd and drop back to 1st at launch.......does this sound right?
Should I go manual shifts or let the box do all the work?
I realise experience and practice will answer all of these questions but any inside info would be helpful.
Cheers, Jake.
I meant to put this in a few hours ago.
All questions about the drag day should now be put to this thread below.

Jake,
I'm probably the last person who should comment on how to drag race successfully but ... burnout size will depend on the type of tyre as will tyre pressure.
I presume this is the PHOON we're talking about and street tyres? If so, PSI would be around 20-22psi and experiment from there and burnout need only be small as you'll only overheat the tyre if it is a street tyre. Only need enough of a burnout to clear the water off the the tyre before staging.
As for shifting the auto ... I'd just shove it in whatever "power mode" it has and let the computer that you paid the hard earned $$$ do the work.
Not much help, sorry but I hope it helps.
Cheers Dave.:waving:
Jake, go here, this is in the Drag racing section, its a good read and should help you out a bit.

This is by far the quickest payout i've ever seen for a private day by a country mile.
Just shows how keen everyone is.
Well done to organisers and competitors:bravo:

I'd love to get a piece of this action and whoop Troy's arse ... but I have sadly proven beyond all doubt that I can't successfully race my way out of a wet paper bag. :(
I do however second the motion and call it official. :yep:

They may be used for work ... but they are hardly "work utes". Troy's car has had less work and makes less power than both of them. It's not like Troy is turning up in a drag car.

Nope ... I'm all for fun. I thought you were trying to stir up some rest of the world vs Marrano's BS ... I've spent too long on LS1.
