Getting close to that time again. Sunday 8th of July is the next one. And in the words of that nasally voiced dude who used to call the V8 races years ago "BE THERE!!!" :D
If you want to............:yep:

I'm thinking about going, it's my first time, but have some question's.
How much punishment do you tyres get for, half day, full day around winton?
Can you have 19's on the front and 17's on the back, or do the front's cop a hiding too?
How long will the standard pads last?
How much Fuel will you use? (Fairly hard to tell, but and close estimate will be good)
Any info will great.
Lyndon
Hey mate, I have never done Winton but in general dont mix tyre types.
Its generaly one side of tha cars tyres cop it, EG At Wakey the left side gets smashed as its a mostly right turn track.
Fuel, a tank.
Pads, its up to you, sorta that same with fuel, its up to you.
Hope this helps for now.
Troy

Fuel: I know Benalla BP isn't far, but if you're doing a full day, as Troy said, start with a full tank.
Pads: no less than 50%. Both Troy & I have gone through a set of pads at Wakefield, & its not good... destroys rotors like you wouldn't believe :headbang: !

Thanks for the info fella's.
I don't plan to all out on my first time and make a fool of myself.
Maybe it will give me an excuse to get some new disc's and pads after i wear the stockies out.
Has anyone raced around Winton, and has more useful info?

G'day Lyndon, yeah I've done some travelling around Winton :yep: . Fuel wont be a problem, just bring some money, they have shell fuel and Bp Ultimate on site. Tyres - stock road tyres will last about 2 - 3 laps of hard going before they start to spit chunks, so you want to alternate between "hot laps" and cool down laps. There are 3 big braking moments, turns 1, 11 and 12 (hope I got that right....) so pads and rotors will cop a beating if you go hard. I had big Brembo's on my Evo 8 and 3 hot laps killed the brakes. Fuel usage depends on how hard you go, but expect it to be high - you will be on a track after all :D . Winton is a low grip surface, and if it's wet, it is quite scary cos there is a lot of concrete to hit. Just ask the guy who totalled his brand spankers Monaro 12 months or so ago. Best bet is to take it fairly easy til you learn the lines and gradually increase your speed as your confidence grows. Hope that helps - Cheers, Brockfan05.

Thanks for the reply guy's, i'll take it easy this time and be prepared next time for a few hard laps. What's $25 to test your car out on.
My cousin's got some spare 17's but i need to but some tyres, and i'll upgrade to some slotted rotors and decent pads after Winton.
I don't need to bring my fuel can then to get home, that's good.
When do I call it quit's, engine temp, auto temp, brakes almost stuffed?
I would like to drive to work the next day.

Each session goes for 1/2 an hour - 1 session drivers only, next session - passengers, and it alternates all day. You will get roughly 15 laps in per session give or take. If your engine or auto gets hot, try to stay off the race line and give it a chance to cool down by leaving the car in a higher gear (lowers your revs but maintains good airflow through the radiator etc) as you circulate. If your brakes are stuffed, it's too late for them :bravo: Best bet is to monitor your brake pedal travel and the amount of retardation you have. If the pedal goes long and you need to increase your braking distance - you need to let them cool out. Be aware standard pads die a quick and painful death under track conditions. One final thing - watch your mirrors, there are a lot of extremely fast cars out there!!

Winton is a very technical circuit, your front tyres will probably cop as much of a beating as the rears.

:yep: I can vouch for that too, in fact I think my fronts were worse than my rears, but that was on an awd car. Rear drive will be more even wear front to rear, but you will buff off the shoulders of your fronts fairly effectively...

What times do you run around winton brockfan?
Ive run a best of 1min and 43.9 seconds. that was my first time out in my new car. I'm aiming for a 42.9 before i do any more mods.
Car is a VYSS with AP's, Quadrant Suspension and a exhaust system.
tyres were 2nd hand A048

Not real sure as I have never been timed around there. I would estimate around the same times as your getting as the circuit really suits Evo's. The quickest Evo that I know of around there did a 1 min 34 sec lap but it was modded with really good tyres and was very well set up.
