Ok so I have spoken about this to the guys at CHE and we had abit of a laugh about it so I thought I would share it with you guys to see what we come up with.
The "195 Drag Challenge"tm* would run something like this.
1.All cars MUST run the stock profile that comes on a base model Commodore or falcon spare wheel IE:195x65R15
2.There would be 2 classes -12sec cars and +12 sec cars.
3.Your "Dial" time would be the time your car your car runs most of the time. IE:My ute will run 11'6 most runs so my time to aim for is 11'6 and the closer I get the more "points" I get or something like that.
4.There would be no real winner more just bragging rights for the skill of winning the "195 Drag Challenge"tm*.
Thats about all the rules I have come up with so far but I think you can see where I am going with it lol.
The point is how well you can peddle the car not just mash you foot to the floor and point it down the deep end.
Now I know most of you are going to think WTF is he nuts and the answer is yes..but that is another matter altogther.I have had the a set of RE55 195's on the back of my ute for a few weeks (before the gearbox made the bad noise) and you would be shocked how much grip you can get out of them if you roll on the gas an dont just mash it.I may only have 300rwkw but I get more grip from the 195's than I do my 17's or even my 18's for that matter.
So post up your idears of how we can make it more fun or better and we will see what we can come up with.
*tm meens totally made up:)

What if you can't fit 15's because your brakes are too big? :D :whip:

hmm, interesting. So no constraint on the tyre compound, just the size must be 195x65R15?

nahh lets not get all anal about it as long as its a 195x65R15 you can run it I say.Hmm after a bit more of a think I say they must not be a slick or ET street.
Aeron I guess you going to have to sell the big brakes and get smaller ones so you can be a 195 Drag challenge god...:yep: lol

It's ok, I'll run the Falcon and not the Commodore then :D

HAHAHA ok Aeron
You can run the 17" Kyle aslong as you cut 2" from the outter radius of the rim.

Everyone is going to be spinning all the way to the speed traps :D:D

I think that's part of Uncle's plan!!!

On a poorly prepped track my 255 x 16 drag radials were scary last time out at WSID!

Its a good concept. Its just a matter of how safe 195 is to race at 120mph.
Tyre compound will make a huge difference.

It would be best if everyone was on the same brand of tyre and size. Something everyone could fit? and something cheap with decent grip. I find at the drags its plenty hard with good street rubber.

What do you guys think of RE55 "control" rubber?
There cheap and make plenty of grip for a small tyre.
I am happy to test the 120mph feel of them if we want to give it a try.

Its a good idea. How much are they? and a rim to suit?

RE55 as stock spare  ??? They're supposed to be a semi-comp.

RE55 as stock spare  ??? They're supposed to be a semi-comp.

There must be some confusion here ... the RE55s I'm thinking of certainly wouldn't be stock on anything and they aren't what I would call cheap either.

Confused ...

RE88's might be closer to the mark.

Its a good concept. Its just a matter of how safe 195 is to race at 120mph.

its just like one of our old customers running 8.2@164mph on 28x9 slick, its all good fun trying to put 800hp through a small tyre

it actually makes the driver work for the pass!!

RE55 as stock spare  ??? They're supposed to be a semi-comp.

Essentially correct fallout boy however ... the RE55 in question were OEM supply on the base model Commodores and similar way back when I was thin and Nick didn't used to get up @ 4am in the morning. :waving:

They might be a bit hard to get these days.

OK well what ever they have as the stock spare in the Base mod car we use.
They must of just given me 55's because I am "special"

We might be confusing RE55 and RE050 ?? RE55 are a targa tyre they would never put them on factory cars.

Think you might be right there Steve

RE55's look like this:
