Anyone know of a good rim painter in Sydney metro? May have found some rims that i like, but not in right colour. When they are done, are they "just like a bought one"? Ideas on cost?

Uncle had some VYSS rims powder coated 'black'. They look good. Worth having a talk to him, but depending on finish of the rims you've found, the end result is very dependant on the surface preparation prior to coating.
I'm guessing you found white and want to go black or vice versa?
There is a place who used to be the paint agent for simmons in blacktown.
Mag wheels by custom paints, or something like that they were :)

I read an artical in Street Machine this year about a place in Mt Druitt that repairs wheels. Special FX Wheel Repairs - 02 98 321 333. For those who read the artical they repaired a rare genuine Walkinshaw rim that was smashed and deformed on the inside. They repaired and repainted/polished it back to better than new. A simple repaint to your rims should be a cheaper walk in the park... :yep:

Yep. Possible white to black.
Nice ... are these rims really that good ? Is it just the weight ... I'm sure you could pick up any set for less so it must be something.
I'm intrigued ... :up2sum:

Just as a side note when I had my wheels powder coated I had to get all of them stripped back to plain alloy for the "paint" to realy bond with the wheels as the finish from Holden has a very small rubber elerment in it that prevents anything getting a good bond with the paint.I then took them home and gave them a light sand with 2000 grit for a realy smooth finish
Your paint will still stick if you dont get it done but maybe not last for years if you know what I meen.So talk to the guys who are going to do the job and sdee what they have to say about it.
Mag wheel repairs in Blacktown did it for me and I must say there are realy good guys to deal with I had a few things done from them and they always did A1 job sometimes even better than I asked for but did not charge me more $$ than they said it would be in the first place.
Cash talks very well there to...

Erik I'm guessing you found some OZ Racing rims in silver or white?????
When I was planning on powder coating some rims on a WRX afew years ago I rang 3 local powder coating places all of which said they can powder coat rims.
I would try ringing any powder coaters from your area as I'm sure you'll find one close by that will be happy to do it.
From memory the cost was around $60-$70 per rim.

Jake, i am actually interested in "another" rim set that is not OZ... OZ are rather scarce ;). So is powdercoating what I am after? Not plain jane painting? I just want a really good finish that will stand the test of time, within reason... & budget. I was told that most panelbeaters can do it. Or do I have to go to a specialist rim repairer/painter? I rang a couple this arvo & was quoted from $120-$180 per rim .

Well I went looking for powder coaters as I was told they will last longer and are stronger than regular painting.
I had some rims painted gloss black with 4 coats of clear on top and they were peeling within 6 months, that's when I was told powder coating is the way to go.
I never actually got the rims powder coated in the end (sold the car) so I am only going off secondhand info.
Good luck and make sure you post some pics when they're done.
Cheers, Jake.

I was about to powdercoat some rims, but my research and consultation with wheel shops led me to change to a paint and clearcoat path.
I ended up just selling the wheels, but painting was going to be about $90-100/rim.
(shadow chrome).
I've heard powder coating can often chip in large chunks if hit by rocks, rather than paint which can 'flex' slightly (and layers of clear act as a cushion).
I'll dig up a spectacular thread from the Ford Forums when i get to work.

Holy thread revival . Russo had my rims powdercoated black a few years back & they're standing the test of time (so far). No flaking or anything like that. Cost ~$500 for set of 4 back then, but black rims & white car =.

I personally wouldn't use paint, it would make doing #2's difficult :yike:

I can get them painted through work if anyone is interested, cost will depend on the rim design and if any damage needs repairing. Any colour available, from hot pink to flat black. :)
