***Well Supercruise has changed as we know it***
Supercruise is no longer to the Gong! The permit got rejected by Wollongong Police and Council.
For those that dont know The Supercruise is the annual ANZAC Day event and is the biggest car cruise of the year without a doubt! Here's what happened last yr: There was no 'official' meet pt but only a destination. There were lots of little meet points for different ppl/clubs. I personally met Albert and the MOPAR boys at Kingsgrove shell (the only real meet pt of the organiser). I then met St Commodore peeps at Roselands, which i organised, then met some of my personal mates at Heathcoate macca's along the way.
The cops have disallowed the permit for the Supercruise to be anywhere in Wollongong/ Albion Park! He has had a permit for the past 11 years, and this year they have said NO! If he turns up there, he will get served a new asshole, and smacked with heavy fines!
The thing is he is trying to organise another venue (Oran Park is the go at the moment), however the problem will be everyone is used to heading to the gong of the past decade on ANZAC day so its going to be hard for everyone to break tradition, and to let everyone know there will be a venue change. He still wants it to go on and he will enquire about Oran Park. Do any of you have any other suggestions for a venue. Its the biggest cruise of the year!
So support the cause, all proceeds go to Childrens Hospital Weastmead... lets keep this event alive!
Matt, VXGTS.
What!! They cant stop you from driving your cars in a certaion area unless that bar acess to that area. So what stopping you from driving down as usual and parking where ever.
If they give you a "move on" order then just do it.
Or I guess find another venue.
Its a shame that they have rejected it this year.
Good luck mate.
Troy :)

Because its held at Albion Park, in a servo behind KFC. There is 6 acres of concrete put down just for this event, the guy trhat owns the servo is mates with Albert who organises it. The permit was rejected by the council and he'll face massive fines if the cruise goes there. If we all go to the gong there will be nowhere to stop and meet up, and i guarantee there will be lots of police ruining our fun. If we go to Oran Park which i hope gets the approval cops cant touch you and the day will be much more enjoyable :D
Sound like your mate should get some legal advice. If that 6 acres are private property than he can have who ever he wants there.
Speak to a lawyer, the should be able to help you getaround the application rejection.
What was the application again, as in what type of application.

SHELLHARBOUR CITY COUNCIL
Ordinary Council Meeting – 20 March 2007
1
Subject 11.2 Local Approval No. 13/2007 - Lot 1, DP 864448,
69-83 Princes Highway, Albion Park Rail - Proposed
12th Supercruise Charity Event (8699814)
To the General Manager
Division: Operations & Services Division
Department: Development and Technical Services
Manager: Graham Mitchell – Manager Development Services
Author: Graham Mitchell – Manager Development Services
Summary
An application under Section 68 of the Local Government Act 1993 has been received
seeking approval to hold the 12th Supercruise Charity Event at the BP Service Station site,
Princes Highway, Albion Park Rail.
The event is proposed to be staged on Wednesday 25 April 2007, between the hours of
10.00am and 6.00pm.
Recommendation
That the Council refuse Local Approval No. 13/2007 for the 12th Supercruise Charity
Event at Lot 1, DP 864448, 69 – 83 Princes Highway, Albion Park Rail under Section 94
of the Local Government Act 1993 for the following reasons.
1. The proposed event is likely to create unacceptable traffic congestion, potential
vehicular conflicts and hazards for motorists along and adjacent to the Princes
Highway, Albion Park Rail.
2. Contrary to the public interest for the above reason.
Background
Applicant: Danics Tyre & Auto Service Centre
Location: Lot 1, DP 864448, 69-83 Princes Highway, Albion Park Rail (Attachment 1)
Proposal
The following is an outline of the proposal as received from the applicant.
‘Please consider this event favourably. We have 10 acres of potential parking space.
Concreted parking area, indoor workshop/showroom space and the 6 acres of clean
vacant land we have prepared, specifically for this event.
Highlighted in orange are the available toilets, 12 available. We need no erections of
any structures or stallholders. We will have uniformed traffic controllers, security,
parking attendants, information personnel. All of us responsible volunteers, with
smoothness and duty of care our prime concern.
SHELLHARBOUR CITY COUNCIL
Ordinary Council Meeting – 20 March 2007
2
The vehicles will be coming from Sydney and turning off the highway, into our
premises. Once on our property, the cars will be guided into three different directions.
The expensive show cars will be guided into the workshop, showroom areas. Other
muscle cars onto the concreted area, again guided by the parking attendants. The
third division will be guided onto the grassed area. We will have the grass sprayed and
outlined for neat parking and minimal confusion.
We are not advertising this Charity Event. This has become a Yearly Cruise, so we are
hoping for 500 plus cars. All of which buy the Charity Sticker for $20 each, on arrival at
approximately 12 noon and then from 4.00pm they begin to leave.
Last year we had many vehicles parked along the Princes Highway. This was because
of the limited available space on our property, so again I stress the extra six acres that
we have cleaned and prepared.
This is a Charity Event, all the money is for Westmead Children’s Hospital. It has been
running for the past 11 years on Anzac Day. It is a lot of work before, during and the
clean up afterwards, but we the Danic Family don’t see it as a sacrifice or potential
insurance claim.
We see it as an honour that we have the land and opportunity to take on this challenge.
Please give us the permission this year to proceed and make a considerable
contribution to the children’.
In response to traffic control issues, the applicant has provided the following:
• The road will remain open and the traffic controllers will direct the vehicles into two
entrances, one into the service station and the other into Creole Road.
• Once approval is received, the Police will be informed.
• There will be minimal disruption on the Highway. The Highway is for public use and
they will be coming onto private property into an industrial zone.
• No traffic control equipment will be used. Only traffic controllers directing traffic into
designated areas.
Consultations
Internal
Traffic Engineer
The Traffic Committee discussed the implications of the proposal and following strong
representations from the Police, it was the Committee’s view that the application should be
refused for the following reasons.
• Business and residents complaining last year about traffic parking in driveways and if
asked to move became abusive.
• A Westmead Hospital representative has indicated that they do not want to be
associated with the event due to problems in the past.
SHELLHARBOUR CITY COUNCIL
Ordinary Council Meeting – 20 March 2007
3
• The event was staged at Roselands Shopping Centre one year and asked never to
come back.
• Strongly opposed and not supported by Police.
• Police representatives spoke to organiser who indicated that the event would go ahead
with approval given or not.
External
Shellharbour Traffic Committee
The proposal was considered by the Traffic Committee at its meeting held on Wednesday 7
March 2007. The Committee recommended that the Council give serious consideration
when dealing with this matter, due to traffic management issues which will ensue should the
event proceed.
The Traffic Committee cannot support this event due to the inevitable disruption to traffic
flow, traffic congestion, numerous private driveways being blocked, impact of traffic
extensively within the city and safety issues associated with the event which were
experienced last year.
Westmead Children's Hospital
The Hospital has confirmed that they are aware that the organisers of the Supercruise are
planning another for 25 April 2007 and state:
‘Please note, that this is an external event organised by supporters of the Hospital
without our assistance. The Hospital has received substantial donations each year that
the proceeds have been directed to us. Please be aware that the Hospital will not
endorse the event and allow the organisers to use our name if approval is not given for
the running of the event by your Council, Police and other relevant authorities’.
Considerations
Financial/resources implications
Nil
Legal & policy implications
One off events, such as proposed, if carried out on either Council owned land or privately
owned land require an approval under Section 68 of the Local Government Act 1993. Under
the provisions of the Act, Council may approve an application subject to conditions or refuse.
In the event the application is refused and the activity proceeds, Council has the option of
issuing fines or commencing Court proceedings.
Public/social impact
The likely traffic problems associated with the event on a public holiday and also along a
State Highway will likely create an unacceptable impact for users of the Princes Highway.
Options
1. Approve the application subject to conditions.
SHELLHARBOUR CITY COUNCIL
Ordinary Council Meeting – 20 March 2007
4
2. Refuse the application and give reasons.
Conclusions
In most circumstances events are supported and approval granted. However, in the
circumstances of this particular event, experiences that have occurred in the past and the
location of the site, it is considered that the site is unsuitable for the activity proposed,
notwithstanding that it is put forward as a money raising charity event for Westmead
Children’s Hospital.
Thanks for that man, it was an interesting read.
I think its crap that...
1. Its been knocked back for the reasons.
2. The Hospital will not back you up.
3. You need an application to do this even if it was on private land.
Again, good luck mate.
Troy :)

Just had a chat to Albert, Oran Park have approved his permit, however we only have access to the carpark. So there's not much there. He is going to check it out this weekend. He has ruled out anywhere up north. He really wants to go to the Gong still as it has been there for so many years and its a good drive there. So as soon as i find out i'll let you guys know.
Any interest in meeting up ar say Roselands so we can cruise together... i'll grab some stickers off him so i can on-sell them to you guys before the destination :D

Weastmead Childrens Hospital was contacted by the Wollongong Police and told not to support the cause, but I believe Albert has called them and told them the show must go on, its just a matter of where... Oran Park was being checked out this weekend for suitablility so i should find out on Tuesday if its the new destination. It is a shame cos the gong was the perfect venue, it was a really good drive down there.

Supercruise destination is now confirmed to be Oran Park.
He could only get access to the carpark as there is a private track day on that day. This means we will have access to park on the grass and walk over to watch the track if we want, but as it was sort of a last minute arrangement (due to the police rejecting the permit) we wont have access to the track. It will still be a good cruise, he is meeting up with all his MOPAR boys at Kingsgrove Shell. Now as some of you know this gets packed really quickly so i thought a meet point elsewhere would be perfect. I was thinking Roselands so long as everyone is well behaved. From there we can cruise together to Oran Park.
Now as the Childrens Hospital were told by the cops not to be affiliated with the cruise, he has dropped the price of the Stickers to $10 each. A sticker will be required for entry, as he had to pay to book the carpark and had to hire security guards. Any extra money he makes will still go to the Childrens Hospital. There will also be a Caravan selling food, but i suggest you might want to stock up on nibblies and drinks as i can guarantee 300-500 carloads of hungry carlovers will make the caravan a busy shop.
If you want to meet up at Roselands, or anywhere else let me know. Also if you guys want me to get some stickers i can get them from him and sell them to you guys at Roselands or wherever before we get to Oran Park. Just let me know so i know how many to ask him for.

Dude im not sure, ive never been to Oran Park so im not sure about the grass situation. As for another venue it was hard enough trying to organise this venue. The permit for the KFC/Shell Servo carpark at Albion Park was rejected only last month so he only had a month to organise Sydneys biggest annual cruise. He didnt have many options as most tracks were booked out. As it is Oran Park track itself has already been hired by someone else, but we are allowed to spectate. I think it would have costed him alot more to hire the track that day too. I gather it would be hard enough getting 50 cars track time, let alone 500 cars. Its just good that the cruise will proceed. Lets just see how well it goes breaking tradition for the first time in 12 years.
