View Full Version : Anyone into radio control?
Simple question, anyone got the Radio control bug? :D
If so, details of model(s)
:bravo:
I have a Tamiya Ford RS 2000 "Michelin Pilot", fully tricked up to the rules for racing the car.
Balanced drive shaft, roller bearings for all axles and shafts, NOVAK servo, foam tyres, after market springs and shocks, alloy front strut mount, alloy motor mounts, 540 TECH motor, custom diff locks for the rear diff (for when you want to do an expression session:bravo: ).
It's been a while since the car has been on the road but sits proudly beside me now by the PC up on its own stand.

I have had heaps over the years, this was my most recent one, bought it about 3 years ago "for the kids" .... It has 2 motors, one for front & one for rear, goes great and is so far indestructible ... and I have tried !!!
What I want next is a petrol / gas powered buggy ... :bravo:
Nick, the bigger the better I say :bravo:

That's 1/6th scale, it's over 700mm long and stands 385mm tall and uses a 26cc 2 stroke motor, 40 mins runtime, no hassles of nitro fuel... :D
I've spent way too much money on rc over the last 19 years :( :D

My engie builder showed me his radio controled jet plane (electric motor), these things absolutely haul ass, from memory about 160-180k's.
Does anyone have any radio controled planes etc?

Got an olllllllldddd Kyosho Optima in a box in the attic upstairs. I think it needs an electronic speed controller as I used to frazzle the old PC board type controller. Got it for Chrissy 1986 (was 11 years old), but hasn't turned a wheel in anger for >5years, in fact probably closer to 10! With this thread appearing, may just dig it out & give it a go.
Where/what is a good shop to source an electronic speed controller & battery packs? I think Novak used to be a big name is speed controllers back in the day? Or is ebay a good place for these?
Carl, is your revo a 3.3 model? if so, sell it to me :D
Theyre the best tenth scale MT for club racing :D

I will be at the 12 hour, and at some stage i'll need to be away from the track for a break, have you got my number? if not i'll call you! :D

Kyle, what HP does it have, and whats it weigh? you got videos of one running?
The cheap ones are about 3.6hp @ 14,000 arrpees...
There are a few options though, up to 8hp motors i believe ~30c.c.

Hi Wade,
I used to be heavily into R/C planes, about 10 years ago. I had 3 planes I used to fly every weekend. All had Enya engines (40, SS40 and an SS45). One of the guys in the club I was with was an ex Qantas pilot who reckons it was harder flying the models than the real things. Never built or flew a jet but have seen them close up and they are freakin awesome.
I gave it up after spending about 3 months building a stunt plane with an Enya SS 45 engine strapped to it, spinning to 19,000rpm running nitro methanol. On it's maiden flight, one of the servo's failed and unfortunately for me, it was the servo for the ailerons which stopped working on full right position. Not much I could do but idle the engine and try and land it "softly" Needless to say, it took a while collecting all the pieces. Got the shits and never flew again.
I've still got 2 of the engines and the 4 channel R/C's but they're probably cactus now after sitting in a box for 10 years.
Cheers,
Scott

I got it for Christmas... if you search RC forums they are not highly regarded, but for $125 it was worth it. There is a twin rotor ''Mash'' style one available for around $200 (i think). You can also get them on ebay.

I've got two r/c things: A electric Honda civic VTIR coupe from Tamiya running a HPI body which i made when i was around 12 and still works. Come to think of it Scott we should dust off the buggers and go flying! :yep:
I also build plastic model kits in my spare time and diaromas for them too. Just recently i completed two US Navy WW2 planes with a tropical island runway with a diecast jeep, oil drums and a palm tree! Im about to start building a Desert spec Meschersmicht BF-109F fighter plane followed by a 155m Howitzer which is for Troy (Sorry for not giving it to you for xmas or your bday!) I did however do this one for his last birthday which looks unreal if i say so myself!

As Nick said, I've spent far too much money racing RC Cars, raced overseas four times now, its a seriously fun and addictive hobby. I shudder to think how much I've spent in the last 10 years, but it's well been worth it, seen parts of the world I would have never seen and made life long friends all over the world through the hobby

It's going to take a bit more than just a dust off mate. All I got left is the engines and R/C's.
I do, however, have this little toy.
It has 2 tiny little electric motors. Throttle position controls the height. The R/C unit provides one engine with more throttle to achieve steering. Very basic but good fun, even inside.

I used to be pretty into RC cars, still have the car, but dont use it much these days. It was a Kyosho pure 10 spider - R34 GTR body. Spent heaps on it, not much was still original lol. Its insane how much money you can spend on the things!.
Had a couple of pretty good crash's in it, but thats all good, makes a good excuse to buy those new aftermarket bits and peices you wanted :) - this was probably the worst stack:
