Anyone else here have a favourite corner or section of race track that just suits your car perfectly. I don't know if its only me, or my cars, but sometime it feels like that bit of track, just bask there, was made specifically for my car. Just thinking about it brings a smile to your face.
You could explain in explicit detail how you set the car up on entry, balance on the throttle throught the apex and just as your about to wind off lock stand on it hard, painting black lines winding on more lock and falling in love with with anyone whos had anyhting to do with the experience your having right now.
Or maybe its just me...
Anyway, I'll start. I think its turn 4 on Oran Park South, the left hander before the flip flop. In the Corty the rear gets light when I dab the brakes just before turn in. On turn in the back starts to step out but being uphill you can give it a bit of throttle compressing the rear. As the corner opens the road flattens out and almost goes off camber stepping the rear out even more untill your wheelspinning over the ripple strip. Give it too much and its dirt turbo all the way home.
Thats enough of a rant for me, I wont even start on good corners for the
XR6...
Luges, Id have to say that I like the kink (slight bend) at the end of the straight at Wakefield park.
I love the adenaline as I belt down the straight just waiting to brake "not yet, not yet, not yet...nowwwwww, oh godddd, braking braking braking and turn in and its off up the back section of Wakey.
My other favorite bit of track is Eastern creek (only been on those two) I cant remember what turn it is afte turn 5 I think, yeah after 5 and into 6, fast and hmmmm again adrenaline :bravo: :yep: :whip:

The track is long gone but Cold Corner at Amaroo Park takes some beating.
90 degree turn with nothing but wall on the other side of it ... yes ZERO run off ...
Serious sphinctor puckering stuff but when you got it right ... :bravo:
The last turn at Oran Park onto the straight. Hard on the brakes coming off the flip flop ... braking up hill, turn in ... nicking the apex and float out towards the wall almost scraping the mirror on the wall. When you got this one right it set you up for an awesome run down the main straight.
Great fun ... :yep:
Please check this post for spelling errors Troy ... :waving:

I have only been around it a couple of times, but Mount Cotton Hill climb, you go up the hill to a tight left hander that is off camber and falls away with a wall on the outside of the corner. unreal little track though i would love to spend a day there.

I'va had a very funny moment at the kink with Oppylock in the car. The Corty doesn't have huge comrpression but if I back off sharply with any steering input it likes to compression lock. Coming down the straight, second ever lap at Wakey in the corty, turned in at the kink, backed off, 360deg spin almost on the spot and then kept going. Girlfriend got it film with the obligitory "Oh FCUK" (sorry to the kids reading but its a valuable life lesson when it comes to g/fs and cars). Much fun was had by all!

Just so everyone is aware, when lugenpopper says he is "in love" with a car or piece of racetrack it's not a figure of speech like it is with most other people.
He really is in love with it.
I have to agree with Dave that the last turn at Oran Park is a favourite, braking at the bottom of the dip into the uphill left hander.
Although you have your head turned to the left looking for the exit, that concrete wall is still in the back of your mind the whole time, especially when you come in too hot and understeer for the first 5 or 6 feet before the front wheels grip and you can start breathing again.
I havent driven Oran Park (except for the kart track) but i quite like skating through turn 4 at Wakefield nowadays

Hmmm....where to start...?
Warwick Farm - I used to love Leger - the sweeping left-hander onto pit-straight.
Oran Park - Maybe the flip-flop, or turn 4 (Suttons)
Amaroo Park - over the top of the hill and Mazda corner at the back of the circuit
Catalina Park - definitely Bosch curve - fast downhill RH into the Tunnel
Bathurst - McPhillamey or the Dipper
Lakeside - the LH kink at the end of the straight
Surfers Paradise - the flat-out (with a quick reassuring touch of the gonads) RH sweeper under the Dunlop Bridge at the end of the straight - sheer breathtaking adrenaline..
Hume Weir - the esses onto the main straight
Calder - nothing - it's a goat-track
Sandown - the esses at the end of the back straight into Dandenong corner - really sorts the men from the boys
Phillip Is - Gardner curve at the end of the main straight, and also over Lukey Heights and down into MG corner - leaves the knickers a bit empty in the Trocadero area...
Winton - the LH sweeper at the back of the circuit
AIR - nothing - I hate it
Towac - the esses onto the main straight
Wakefield Park - not much, but...maybe the kink at the end of the straight
Eastern Ck - I haven't been there but I like the look of the the LH at the end of the straight

Turn 6 in the Coupe is a heap of fun, usually a bit skatey (nice word hey) across 4 + 5 and then hard on it through 6 usually gets a nice 4 wheel drift happening, lots of fun.
I also like turn 8 at EC ... just after the bridge on the hill. Again probably more fun in the Coupe than most other cars. I had one of the instructors in the car with me for 3 or 4 laps and he was amazed at the grip the car had through the corner, there is a dip mid corner and he said almost all cars get very unsettled if you are on the gas too early. The AWD made it possible to basically accelerate all the way through the corner ...
They're the 2 bits that I always enjoy most.

Seldo, where's Towac?
 Long gone I'm afraid - It was at Orange. To give you an idea, I first drove there in '65 (that's 19 65...) ;)

Hey Seldo, I think it would enrich all our historical facinations if you were to tell us what cars you enjoyed these tracks in. I've heard Catalina Park was a pretty special place. I think thay may have hillclimbs there still.

Great thread guys!
Eastern Creek - my favourite is the 4/5 combo. Come down the hill and brake hard to tip in the car, late apex to set yourself up for 5, trying not to get too enthusiastic with oversteer. Then turn into 5 quite early and use all the road on the exit. Have used that move with great success to pass several cars during races going up the little hill before the stupid 6/7 combo.
Wakefield - the left/right/right across the top of the hill. I love to have cars that are good through there as you can set yourself up very well for a run under brakes into the fish hook. Alternatively, if you're good enough through the left hander, you can nip inside someone at the first right (I'm rarely good enough, but have been known to try!).
Oran Park GP - Coming off the bridge and into the esses. A great quick combination of corners that can be really satisfying with a well balanced car, particularly riding over the ripple strips through the esses.

Another time Eric - don't want to spoil the thread, and besides - I'm too shy..;)

The dog-leg at Oran Park is my favourite bit of track. Its blind and its fast. When you turn right into it, you cant see the exit of the corner. The car gets light over the top then you power hard out the other side. I love it!!

Eastern Creek - Turn One. Balls out, fastest corner in NSW (well i haven't raced at bathurst - yet !!) and sensational when you get it right. The fact it can get very very ugly when you get it wrong only makes it even better !! In the RX-7 i used to hit the 9,500rpm limiter in 5th right at the braking mark, hard on the brakes, back to 4th, turn in and just roll the gas back on and be flat by the time i was 3/4 of the way through the corner. Four wheel slides across the width of the track make your arse pucker up like a night with Bubba... :yep:
Oran Park GP - Off the bridge at Turn 4. That right hand turn is sensational and i remember being chased by a very very fast 6ltr Commodore lap after lap through there and pulling 3 car lengths there every lap - the bloke later came and saw me and said he backed off because i was coming out sideways every lap. Damn it was fun... :bravo:
Also loved the "flip flop" at Oran Park. Pinned in 4th gear at about 8,500rpm the two left hand side wheels literally float across the ripple strip and it's nothing short of sensational when you get it right. I did however end up on the infield there twice - not recommended !!
Wakefield Park - Hard to say, nothing stands out but it's a great little track. The kink is a challenge as it's taken pretty much at full noise, the fish-hook is where i came undone and had a major prang outbraking myself, and the bumps under brakes before the final turn sorts the men from the boys... :p
